On SBS' Kkokkomu, Sunye breaks down in tears over hereditary domestic violence after an aunt brutally murdered her 8-year-old nephew.
Today (26) the program Tails of Tales (directed by Ahn Yoon-tae, Lee Keun-byeol, Kim Byung-gil; hereinafter Kkokkomu) is "Inheritance of evil", singer Sunye, Kim Jang Hoon, and actor Bae In Hyuk will appear as listeners.
Kkokkomu reexamines the "Yongin nephew water torture case" that provoked nationwide outrage in February 2021. The 8-year-old nephew Saetbyeol (pseudonym) suffered unimaginable domestic violence from her biological aunt, including repeated beatings, water torture, and forced inhalation of animal excrement, and was ultimately killed. At the time Saetbyeol's body was covered in bruises and her left third rib was fractured. The discovery of a tooth that had fallen out while she clenched her teeth in extreme pain in her esophagus made the death so gruesome that it shocked people.
The broadcast will reveal footage showing Saetbyeol's last moments on the day of her death, drawing attention. When the footage was shown, not only Sunye, a mother of three, but also MC Jang Hyun-sung could not speak through their tears. Sunye said, "It's so pitiful. How much did they abuse and beat the child for the child to die," and she broke down in uncontrollable sobs without being able to watch the video to the end. Kim Jang Hoon could not utter a single word at the horror, and Bae In Hyuk said he could not contain his anger, noting, "She seems to feel no remorse at all," in response to the aunt's calm voice in the video saying, "I never intended to kill."
The fact that the person who filmed the footage was the aunt added to the outrage. The aunt had stored as many as about 70 abuse videos on her phone. However, the aunt was also a victim of domestic violence in her childhood; her father was the perpetrator of the "Gunsan wife murder case" in which he killed his wife following domestic violence. The aunt had been so outraged that she petitioned the public to increase the sentence of her imprisoned father, which made the case even more shocking.
Why did an aunt who knew the pain of domestic violence better than anyone else become another perpetrator of domestic violence, and why did Saetbyeol have to die at the end of such horrific domestic abuse — the chilling "inheritance of evil" is revealed through Kkokkomu.
