Actors Ko A Sung and Moon Sang Min captivated viewers with a talk that swung between the dazzling sensitivity of youthful melodrama and relatable realism.
On the 25th episode of "YouTube Ha Ji-young," the stars of the Netflix film "Pavane," Ko A Sung and Moon Sang Min, appeared and candidly discussed the film, behind-the-scenes stories, views on relationships, and thoughts on love, delivering a back-and-forth like a scene from a youth melodrama.
Recently filming at a theater, Ko A Sung and Moon Sang Min appeared with an exciting 27 cm height difference that filled the set with flutter. In particular, Moon Sang Min drew attention by boasting a height taller than the theater entrance and showing an overwhelming physique.
Having established himself as a rising star through the recently concluded To My Beloved Thief, Moon Sang Min said, "I expect reactions like 'So Moon Sang Min had this side too' through Pavane," and added, "I feel confident because it seems like a good omen," raising anticipation.
The two revealed behind-the-scenes feelings they experienced while filming the Netflix film "Pavane." Ko A Sung confessed, "In the film, Mijeong and Gyeongrok start their relationship by being wary of each other. At first, I felt we shouldn't get close too quickly, so I deliberately kept my distance." Moon Sang Min confessed, "The moment the relationship narrows, it's thrilling to the point where I get confused about whether it's good for Gyeongrok or good for Moon Sang Min," drawing attention.
Ko A Sung also said, "I have a tendency to overinvest in a role, and when I go home the afterimage of (Moon Sang Min's) tall height stays with me. Filming felt so intense it was like I was dating again, to the point where I wondered, 'Have I really fallen in love?'" She said this as an episode of an actor's natural immersion that raised the excitement level.
That day, the two participated in scene tests of representative melodramas such as "La La Land," "Before Sunrise," "One Fine Spring Day," and "Architecture 101." In the "La La Land" scenario of unexpectedly meeting an old lover, Ko A Sung coolly chose "See you in the next life," while Moon Sang Min replied, "You look prettier," revealing pure feelings about love until the end.
In the "Before Sunrise" scenario of traveling with a stranger, Ko A Sung said, "I think I would wait for the other person to speak first," while Moon Sang Min chose understated courage, saying, "I think I would sit diagonally and express my feelings." Especially, Moon Sang Min's reenactment of the scene from the diagonal seat drew a heated response. When asked "Want to come over for ramen?" from "One Fine Spring Day," Ko A Sung laughed and said, "Moon Sang Min likes ramen, so I think he'd say he'll come over for ramen."
In the relationship counseling corner conducted under the film's core proposition, "Love is misunderstanding," the two actors' lovable charms came through. Regarding a letter about whether a soldier about to enlist should break up first for his girlfriend's sake, Moon Sang Min offered realistic advice, saying, "You should reconsider whether choosing to break up is truly for the other person. Can't you just serve your military duty diligently and treat them better afterward?" By contrast, Ko A Sung made the set burst into laughter with an offbeat response: "Joint enlistment?"
"Pavane" is a work based on Park Min-gyu's novel "Pavane for a Dead Princess." Ko A Sung explained, "It is a film that expands a novel inspired by Velázquez's paintings and Maurice Ravel's music. It is the story of young people who had closed their hearts meeting by chance and becoming each other's light." She added, "I want to recommend it to those who miss the nostalgia of classic melodrama," and Moon Sang Min added admiration by describing it as "a classic melodrama but trendy, like a luxury vintage film."
That day Ko A Sung said, "I can't believe I'm appearing on a YouTube channel I enjoy watching. I'm glad I could introduce Pavane and I want to come again," and Moon Sang Min also concluded the interview by expressing his affection for the film, saying, "Please show a lot of interest in Pavane."
