"Pavane" actor Moon Sang Min revealed behind-the-scenes details of the kissing scene with Byun Yo-Han.
On the morning of the 25th at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, an interview was held with Moon Sang Min, the lead actor of the film "Pavane."
"Pavane" is based on the original novel "Pavane for a Dead Princess" and tells the story of three people who had closed the doors of their hearts and, by becoming light for one another, face life and love. It ranked No. 1 on Netflix in Korea and, within three days of release, recorded 2,000,000 views (the number of views divided by the work's total running time) and rose to No. 7 in the global top 10 non-English films institutional sector.
Moon Sang Min debuted in 2019 with the web drama "Christmas: Four Reasons I Hate You" and appeared in "My Name," "Under the Queen's Umbrella," "After School War Activities," "Wedding Impossible," and "Cinderella at 2am," among others. This year he rose to stardom through the KBS2 historical drama "To My Beloved Thief," and in his first leading film role in "Pavane" he delivered a passionate performance as Kyung-rok, a young man who gives up his dream of becoming a dancer and lives in the real world.
Moon Sang Min said, "It had been two years since we filmed 'Pavane,' so I waited a long time. Now that the film is out and I've seen the footage, even though I waited, it feels very strange. I'm very happy but also very nervous, and strangely I think I had confidence. Not confidence in myself or the character, but confidence in the work. I think I knew best how we filmed it, so I had a positive feeling."
After the film was released, Moon Sang Min and Byun Yo-Han's intense kissing scene drew great attention on social media, and Moon Sang Min replied, "It might be the most intense kiss since my debut," which elicited laughter.
He added, "Everyone watched it with interest, but it was a very important scene for us. I'm grateful that Yo-Han hyung showed courage. In a situation where we had to break that silence and interrupt the flow of the story, it would have felt really strange if we had merely pretended to kiss. So the two of us went through with the kiss. We really shot it only once."
Earlier, Byun Yo-Han said the kissing scene with Moon Sang Min was briefly awkward, and regarding that Moon Sang Min said, "I felt sorry toward Yo-Han hyung. The awkwardness was because of me. (laughs) I avoided him. I couldn't look him in the eye and acted awkwardly. Yo-Han hyung is a veteran, but because I kept being awkward, hyung said, 'Sang Min~ when you act like that, I get awkward too.' He seems like he's not looking at me, but he watches closely and knows Moon Sang Min the person and Kyung-rok well and has affection for them. So it was amazing. When Yo-Han hyung said that I felt, 'We must have gotten to know each other well and become close.'"
Meanwhile, "Pavane" was released on Netflix to more than 190 countries worldwide on the 20th.
