Singer Younha revealed the behind-the-scenes story of the birth of her first remake album.
Younha released two commentary videos for her first remake album "Sub Character One (SUB CHARACTER)" on her official YouTube channel at midnight on the 23rd and 24th. "Sub Character One" includes a total of four tracks, starting with the pre-released "Seasonal Crime" and including "Sub Character (써브캐릭터)", "Yeomra", and "Skybound (스카이바운드)".
In the commentary videos, Younha and the original artists appeared and formed a rapport through various stories. Miiro, the composer of "Seasonal Crime," Wizu, the singer-songwriter of "Sub Character," and KARDI, the mixed-gender band of "Skybound," candidly shared the origin stories of the songs as well as their individual musical worlds.
In particular, Younha spoke about completing the album according to the planned concept, saying, "There were four songs I wanted to remake, and the approval success rate was 100%. If different ingredients had been added, the whole dish might have turned out differently."
As the reason for the 100% success rate, she mentioned the original artists and explained, "They are people with similar tastes, so it felt like neighbors living in the same neighborhood. Maybe they granted permission because they wanted to help each other." Respecting the originals and completing the remakes with a different interpretation, she shared the process for each song and expressed special affection for the album, saying, "I instinctively felt that I and the original artists were on the same wavelength. The details were visible without linguistic explanation. I worked with conviction."
You could also find the song messages and Easter eggs introduced directly by the original artists. Miiro described "Seasonal Crime" as "a theme that everything we gain as we live is precious," Wizu said of "Sub Character," "We added the message that at some moments we can all be someone's protagonist," and KARDI described "Skybound" as "a song that injects confidence that it's okay to be optimistic about the future."
After listening to Younha's remakes, KARDI said, "It's ecstatic. It feels like being on an open sea," Wizu said, "Of course it was very good," and Miiro said, "I felt overwhelming emotion. I was happy to see traces of the care and thought put into it," raising expectations for the released tracks as original creators.
Finally, Younha left her thoughts, saying, "I am grateful to the original creators who allowed this album to be released. We completed it with so much fun and excitement. Because this is an album made from personal taste, I think it will be the perfect gift for those who share that taste. Please listen happily."
Meanwhile, Younha's first remake album "Sub Character One" will be released through various online music sites at 6 p.m. on March 9.
