tvN 'Fresh off the Sea' season 3 is scheduled to air in the second half of the year, and a spinoff variety show will reach viewers first. tvN confirmed production of the 'Fresh off the Sea spinoff' (working title), which will be presented in April.
Fresh off the Sea, which aired its first episode on tvN in 2024 (directed by Kim Se-hee), is a variety show that captures a diverse range of seaside jobs and seasonal meals that can only be tasted there. Centered on Yum Jung-ah, the members worked, ate and enjoyed together, emitting chemistry that felt like a real family and receiving warm love from viewers.
Yum Jung-ah, a professional worker who can do everything, took charge as a reliable, fun big sister who leads the younger members, and Park Joon Myun, who displayed fatal charm and reinvented herself as the "seasoning Park," played her role to the fullest. In particular, the discovery of variety show treasures such as Ahn Eun-jin and Dex, who were the "maknae line" in season 1, and Lim Ji-yeon and Lee Jae-wook in season 2, is cited as another factor in the show's success. The "maknae line" members showed squabbles like real siblings but also drew strong interest with their exceptional chemistry as they took care of each other.
The spinoff will feature Yum Jung-ah, Park Joon Myun, Dex and Kim Hyeyoon, who are expected to show a different chemistry. Previously, Kim Hyeyoon participated as a guest in Fresh off the Sea season 2 and impressed with work skills as strong as Yum Jung-ah's. Dex and Kim Hyeyoon are teaming up for the first time through this variety show. Dex thus has his "first younger sister," raising expectations for the chemistry the newly formed maknae line will show.
The production team of the 'Fresh off the Sea spinoff' (working title) said, "As a spinoff, it will contain different points of fun from Fresh off the Sea," and added, "Viewers can look forward to the genuine family chemistry they liked the most."
