The latest on film director Hong Sang-soo (66), who had a son out of wedlock with actor Kim Min-hee (44), has been made public.
Actor Song Sun-mi posted on Instagram on the 23rd, "I went to the Berlin Film Festival. It was an experience that allowed me to see the world a bit more broadly. Please look forward to the film 'The day she came back'," and uploaded several photos taken with director Hong. Hong appears with short white hair and a bearded face, wearing a dark coat and a crossbody bag.
Director Hong recently attended the 76th Berlin International Film Festival. Hong's 34th feature film, "The day she came back," was selected for the Panorama section and had its first screening for German audiences on the 18th (local time). Song Sun-mi plays Bae Jeong-su, an actress who returns from retirement.
The film also features Kim Min-hee, who has been in an extramarital relationship with Hong for more than 10 years, as production manager. The two developed into a couple through Hong's 2015 film "Right now, wrong then," and have worked together on most of his films since. Since appearing in Park Chan-wook's 2016 film "The handmaiden," Kim Min-hee has participated only in Hong's works.
Hong and Kim Min-hee publicly acknowledged their relationship at a press conference for the 2017 film "On the beach at night alone." Hong sought divorce mediation and filed a suit against his wife, but the court dismissed it, finding Hong primarily responsible for the breakdown of the marriage. The two ultimately maintained their extramarital relationship and had a son out of wedlock in April last year.
