Broadcaster Jun Hyun-moo apologized for inappropriate remarks directed at a line-of-duty police officer.
On the 23rd, Jun Hyun-moo's agency SM C&C issued an official statement expressing apology over the recent controversy regarding disrespectful remarks about the deceased.
The agency said, "We deeply mourn the lives and efforts of all the deceased mentioned on the 'Fate War 49' broadcast and extend our sincere condolences to the bereaved families. We feel a heavy responsibility for causing hurt to the deceased and their families due to some expressions used in the broadcast. Regardless of any context, we should have been more careful when referring to the deceased."
It continued, "Jun Hyun-moo repeated some words as they were while summarizing a cast member's remarks and did not sufficiently consider the appropriateness of the expressions. We take seriously that this resulted in a failure to show proper respect to the deceased. We sincerely apologize to the deceased and their families. We also apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable while watching the broadcast. We will conduct internal reviews to ensure stricter standards and a stronger sense of responsibility and do our best to prevent recurrence," and bowed his head, saying, "We apologize once again deeply."
Meanwhile, Disney+ 'Fate War 49' is a variety show in which 49 fate readers gather and perform a possessed-style survival competition, testing their destinies through various missions. However, in episode 2 a mission was held to read the deceased's fortune and death date and guess the cause of death, and in the process Kim Cheol-hong, a firefighter who died in the line of duty in the 2001 Hongje-dong arson incident, and police sergeant Lee Jae-hyun, who died in the line of duty, appeared and drew attention. In addition, cast members used provocative expressions such as "it's hot" and "got crushed," and Jun Hyun-moo also mentioned an explicit word regarding police sergeant Lee Jae-hyun, saying "kalX," which sparked controversy over disrespecting the deceased.
