Actors Park Jin Hee and Kim Hee-jeong preview their adversarial chemistry in "Red Pearl."
On the morning of the 23rd, KBS2's new daily drama "Red Pearl" held an online production press conference that was streamed live. Director Kim Seong-geun and actors Park Jin Hee, Nam Sang-ji, Choi Jae-seong, Kim Hee-jeong, Kim Gyeong-bo, Kang Da Bin, and Cheon Hee-ju attended the press conference and talked.
"Red Pearl" is a drama that depicts a revenge chronicle in which two women who return with false identities uncover the sins and truths hidden in the Adel family.
In the story, Kim Hee-jeong, who plays Oh Jeong-ran, the wife of Park Tae-ho (played by Choi Jae-seong), engages in conflict, such as trying to eliminate Kim Myung-hee (played by Park Jin Hee), who is pregnant with Park Tae-ho's child, to keep her position as the mistress of the conglomerate Adel. Meanwhile, Park Jin Hee will play a dual role as Kim Dan-hee, who enters Adel disguised as her sister after witnessing the death of her twin sister Kim Myung-hee and seeks revenge, continuing to clash with Kim Hee-jeong.
When asked about her chemistry with Park Jin Hee, Kim Hee-jeong said, I have many scenes that involve fights and roughness with Jin-hee. Jin-hee seems very delicate, but she also has strength. There was a scene recently where water was sprayed. We talked. How much should we spray? Should we spray only on the face? Is it okay if the hair gets wet? We discussed the intensity. Since we can shoot only once, we have to agree before shooting, she said, adding, Actresses can be cautious about their bodies, but there was none of that. She told me to spray as much as I want, do everything you want.
She said, There is dramatic fun, and there are moments when a character might want to do something but is too cautious to do it, but by opening up those aspects, it creates situations where you can comfortably commit misdeeds. With fights and such, you can get hurt, but because Jin-hee comfortably takes the hits, I can commit misdeeds comfortably. It's not personal, she said, but added, Once after a take, I suddenly thought from behind, Doesn't she dislike me? Because it hit the nose and landed squarely in the eyes, even if it wasn't intentional, I hesitated. Even in scenes where we exchange blows and fight, there are emotions. I worried, Isn't this a bit too much? but she made it so easy that it ended well; we apologized to each other but we are working hard for the viewers' enjoyment, she joked, drawing laughter.
In response, Park Jin Hee said, Actually it was reassuring and comforting to have my sister beside me. Although I have done many works and acted for a long time, this is my first time working with my sister. A long time ago we were on another project together, but we didn't meet there. This time we keep clashing, meeting, and developing a rivalry. Watching my sister act, you can tell she rides the edge with her lines; she plays with lines very well. I learned a lot, like you can act like that, you can play with it like that, you can deliver it like singing. When I'm with my sister, I actually become immersed because I'm learning a lot from her, she said, adding warmth.
