Project group I.O.I will return to the music scene for its 10th debut anniversary.
On the 23rd, Swing Entertainment said, "I.O.I has confirmed a May comeback," adding, "A new album is currently in the works." Swing Entertainment will oversee overall comeback activities, taking charge of management for this 10th anniversary project.
The reunion came about roughly nine years after official activities ended in 2017. Among the members, Kang Mina and Zhou Jieqiong will not be able to join this round of activities due to scheduled commitments. Lim Nayoung, Chung Ha, Kim Se-jeong, Jung Chaeyeon, Kim So-Hye, Yoo Yeonjung, Choi Yeonjung, Kim Doyeon and Jeon Somi will promote the new album as a nine-member act.
I.O.I was formed through Mnet "Produce 101" in 2016 and debuted in May of that year. During its activity period, the group released songs including "Dream Girls," "Whatta Man," "Very Very Very" and "Downpour," and took No. 1 on major music shows.
The group also won rookie awards at the Mnet Asian Music Awards, the Golden Disc Awards and the Seoul Music Awards, and ended official activities after a concert in January 2017.
I.O.I plans to release a new album in May and launch an Asia tour starting with a concert in Seoul. Detailed album information and the comeback schedule will be revealed sequentially at a later date.
