K-pop composer the late Shinsadong Tiger (born Lee Ho-yang), who left a significant mark on K-pop, has been gone from our midst for two years already.
The late Shinsadong Tiger suddenly passed away on Feb. 23, 2024, at the age of 41, delivering a huge shock to the music industry.
At the time, his agency TR Entertainment said, "We are devastated and heartbroken to deliver such tragic and sorrowful news. Producer Shinsadong Tiger suddenly left us on Feb. 23, 2024," and added, "We earnestly ask that you refrain from speculation or conjectural reporting for the sake of the bereaved family, who must be grieving more than anyone."
From the late 2000s through the mid-2010s, Shinsadong Tiger was a singular hitmaker who led K-pop's golden age. In particular, he drove the trends of the era by producing many signature songs for second-generation girl groups.
He created nationwide hit songs loved by the public, including girl group T-ara's "Bo Peep Bo Peep," "Roly-Poly," "Lovey-Dovey," and "Sexy Love," Apink's "NoNoNo" and "Remember," EXID's "Up & Down," "Ah Yeah" and "Hot Pink," Beast's "Fiction" and "Shock," HyunA's "Bubble Pop," Trouble Maker's "Trouble Maker," and Momoland's "Bboom Bboom."
During his lifetime he never stopped being passionate about music. In 2021 he became the chief producer of TR Entertainment and personally launched the girl group TRI.BE, dedicating himself to musical activities.
Tragically, news of his death came just after TRI.BE returned with an ambitious comeback after one year, deepening fans' sorrow. Despite the great sadness at the time, TRI.BE members honored his wishes by wearing white ribbons on stage.
His absence remains great, but his music continues to resonate across the streets and connect with the public. Numerous artists who worked with him during his lifetime, including EXID, continue to express their heartfelt tributes to him.
On the first anniversary last year, EXID member LE posted photos on social media visiting the place where he rests and wrote, "Time goes by so fast. I feel like I saw oppa when I paid my respects. I hope the place where you are is quiet and peaceful."
On this second anniversary, waves of mourning continue as people pray for the deceased's repose.
