Kim Dae-ho and Kim Kwang-kyu appeared on MBN issue maker talk show "Kim Ju-ha's Day and Night," and, fitting for leading figures bringing a fresh breeze to the entertainment world, delivered a blistering performance that tore up the talk show.
The 13th episode of MBN "Kim Ju-ha's Day and Night," which aired at 9:40 p.m. on the 21st (Sat), recorded a peak nationwide rating of 3.6% according to the viewing rating agency Nielsen Korea. Kim Dae-ho and Kim Kwang-kyu spread positive synergy with a cheerful wit that sublimated suffering and loneliness into laughter.
First, on "Unknown legend," which will premiere on the 25th (Wed), Kim Dae-ho and Kim Kwang-kyu, who appear as MC and judges, respectively, previewed their perfect chemistry by teasing each other while explaining "Unknown legend." In particular, when Kim Kwang-kyu dropped the bait that a contestant's abs would be revealed to the tune of his song "Open sesame," Kim Dae-ho provoked laughter by looking flustered.
Then, Kim Dae-ho, who passed the announcer audition "new employee" with a competition rate of 1,836:1 and joined MBC, revealed that he experienced burnout three years after joining, drawing attention. Kim Dae-ho said he was harshly criticized by a PD for replying to a listener's story on a radio show with zero empathy while filling in for a colleague on vacation, and he confessed that while appearing on "Zero Complaints" he played the role of "Zero Man," the opposite of his real personality, realized he lacked the aptitude of a broadcaster, and submitted his first resignation letter.
In the end, last year Kim Dae-ho resigned from MBC after 14 years of service and declared himself a freelancer. He said, "Money was not the top priority," and added, "It was an adventure, but I pondered living my life more interestingly and diversely," saying he chose resignation as a way to forge his life.
Also, "entertainment industry" representatives Kim Dae-ho and Kim Kwang-kyu shared candid thoughts on marriage. Each said, "I had my fortune read and was told there will definitely be romance before age 50," and "I'm not anti-marriage and I'm secretly(?) preparing," expressing an unchanged will to marry. But both, who said they seek natural encounters, revealed traumas from blind dates that made everyone laugh sadly. Kim Dae-ho said he still hasn't heard from a blind-date partner who said 15 years ago she had a cold, and Kim Kwang-kyu said he once received a "chain letter" out of the blue from a blind-date partner who had cut off contact, which provoked laughter.
Meanwhile, when Kim Ju-ha asked, "If you were to go on a blind date, who between Kim Dae-ho and Kim Kwang-kyu?" she unhesitatingly chose "Kim Kwang-kyu," making him swoon. But Kim Ju-ha immediately added, "I don't look at appearance," and followed with the bombshell, "I once looked at appearance and (married) and met a man who had undergone plastic surgery," prompting Kim Kwang-kyu, who grabbed the back of his neck, to seize Jo Jae-je's collar and roar, "Another letter came from England!" to burst everyone into laughter. Kim Ju-ha married a businessman in 2004 but filed for divorce in 2013 citing her ex-husband's affair and assault, and the divorce was finalized with property division in 2016. She has two children.
In particular, Kim Kwang-kyu added to the pathos by saying he acts out scenes such as, "When I enter the house and dislike the cold chill, I shout, 'Honey, I'm home,'" because of his long solo life.
Meanwhile, Kim Kwang-kyu recounted a deposit fraud story in which he lost all the money he had saved over 11 years, dating back to when his appearance fee was 30,000 won or 50,000 won, eliciting sympathy. Kim Kwang-kyu, who said, "I developed a nervous illness and cried a lot," shocked listeners by revealing he even lost all the money he had saved from jobs starting at a shoe factory at age 20, then taxi driver, waiter, and sales representative, to stocks, and later went to the Han River to seek consolation. On top of that, Kim Kwang-kyu recounted tumultuous stories including huge losses in bitcoin, an incident in which he almost became a victim of voice phishing, and a case where he lent money to an acquaintance and was not repaid, arousing pity.
Aiming for early retirement, Kim Dae-ho, when asked about himself in 10 years, said, "If the moment comes when the retirement I planned and want is possible, I think I'll leisurely spend time watching the sunset," and added, "I still have many dreams, like taking a cruise or a nonpowered yacht," predicting a hopeful future. Kim Kwang-kyu hinted at a modest but stable future, asking, "(Won't I be) just like this in 10 years?"
Finally, Kim Kwang-kyu and Kim Dae-ho performed to wish for the success of "Unknown legend." Kim Kwang-kyu passionately sang "Empty cup," expressing his respect for Nam Jin, who serves as a judge on "Unknown legend," and Kim Dae-ho passionately sang "Nest," hoping as the MC of "Unknown legend" that all viewers would make the program their "home." Their stage, which showed affection for the program, received applause.
