'1deungdeul' Rhee Minjung and Heo Sung-tae shed tears at Kim Ki-tae's performance.
On the 22nd episode of the MBC entertainment show '1deungdeul' 2, the survival competition became even more brutal.
Following last week's reconnaissance round, the real battles unfolded. The MCs explained that in the initial ranking round only those ranked 1st through 5th advance to head-to-head battles, and those ranked 6th through 9th cannot sing until the battles end. In response, Park Seung-il said, "What do we do, I'm in shock," and Kim Ki-tae worried, "If I don't advance, I'll just sit every week." Park Ji-min also said, "It's a bit cruel," and Park Chang-geun lamented, "Who on earth came up with that idea? I really wanted to give them a pinch."
In particular, the top-ranked contestant in the ranking round is given a bye. The situation demanded winning first place at all costs. Heo Gak said, "I really want to win," and Lee Ye-jun also fired up, "I won't settle for being in the top five; I have to be number one."
Park Ji-min, who finished 8th in the reconnaissance round, entered the battle with determination but delivered a disappointing performance as she wavered from the very first pitch. Park Ji-min admitted, "I ruined this performance. I sang the first note and the pitch wavered." Baek Z Young, sensing it, said, "Doesn't Jimin's throat seem bad?" and added, "Still, it's amazing she finished until the end," expressing regret.
Heo Gak, who finished third in the reconnaissance round, completed a touching performance with "Don't worry, my love." Heo Sung-tae marvelled, "Heo Gak was Heo Gak," and as expected Heo Gak took first place. Baek Cheong-gang, Lee Ye-ji, Lee Ye-jun and Son Seung-yeon also competed, but Heo Gak fortunately maintained first place.
The next performance was Kim Ki-tae. He said, "I'm excited and worried, the angle is scary. It can't be helped. I'll sing harder," and chose Lee Seung-hwan's "How can love be like that" to sing passionately. Kim Ki-tae delivered a moving performance with a husky voice.
At Kim Ki-tae's performance Rhee Minjung showed tears, and Baek Z Young said, "I can't not stand up," offering a standing ovation. Meanwhile, Heo Gak, who had held first place, worried, "This is really outrageous."
Boom said, "There are two tears fairies on '1deungdeul'," mentioning the teary Heo Sung-tae and Rhee Minjung. Rhee Minjung confessed, "I really tried not to cry and held it in, but I couldn't do anything in front of the lion voice."
Then Heo Gak said, "We like our Ki-tae hyung and he sang so well, but ballad singers have a few skills. I never dreamed he'd use that in the ranking round. Singing without the microphone, already doing that here," which drew laughter.
Son Seung-yeon also said, "Because he already used it in the ranking round, we can't use unaccompanied singing. He used his super-special finishing move too early," and Heo Gak asked, "Hyung, did you want to beat me that badly? Was it that serious?"
At that time Boom announced, "He didn't use only one technique. We heard that Mr. Ki-tae seemed to shed tears while singing." Using unaccompanied singing and tears as his finishing moves, Kim Ki-tae won the battle, surpassing Heo Gak to take first place, drawing amazement. Heo Gak, having failed to defend his position, said, "Only then did I seem to let everything go. My head still hurts."
