Singer Taejin-ah's side strongly denied reports of performing at an extreme-right concert and warned of legal action.
On the 22nd, Taejin-ah's agency Jina Entertainment made clear in an official statement, "Singer Taejin-ah will not perform at the March 1st commemorative free music concert, which is reported to be held March 2 at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, hosted by the YouTube channel "Jeon Han-gil News."
Right-leaning YouTuber Jeon Han-gil earlier announced the holding of a "March 1st commemorative free music concert" during a live broadcast on his YouTube channel on the 20th. He said, "Among ourselves we should say 'the right wing is not tired' and perhaps shout 'Yoon again' even within this," noting that the concert had the character of a rally. Afterwards, Jeon Han-gil released the concert poster, which attracted attention because it included singer Taejin-ah's name. Jeon Han-gil also referred to the performing lineup as "conservative right-wing entertainers" and said, "It would be good to give these people a performance opportunity."
But Taejin-ah's agency denied that he would perform at the concert. The agency rebutted, "We will take strong legal action regarding the incident in which an event official lied to deceive and inquired about Taejin-ah's schedule, then unilaterally treated the artist's participation as a done deal."
According to the agency, an entertainment industry official visited Taejin-ah's Itaewon cafe a few days ago and asked, "Can you appear at an event at KINTEX at 2 p.m. on March 2?" and Taejin-ah reportedly replied, "The schedule is possible." The agency explained the circumstances, saying, "Because local elections are approaching, we asked whether it was a political event since we were concerned, but were told, 'It's just a regular event held at KINTEX.'"
They continued, "The next day, the event poster with Taejin-ah's photo spread on social media, and we learned that the YouTube channel 'Jeon Han-gil News' was saying Taejin-ah would appear at the music concert," adding, "We were so astonished and outraged that we requested correction from the person involved, but the poster had already spread online, and as of the 22nd, 'Jeon Han-gil News' is still saying Taejin-ah will appear at the event."
They said, "The claim that Taejin-ah agreed to appear at the event is completely untrue, and we will sue and press charges for defamation against the person who inquired about the schedule by lying that it was not a political event. We are also preparing legal action against 'Jeon Han-gil News' for using Taejin-ah's photos in a YouTube broadcast without permission and without verifying the facts." They repeatedly emphasized, "Although there have been numerous love calls from political circles in the past, he has never responded even once, and he has no intention of appearing at political events in the future."
Meanwhile, Taejin-ah debuted as a singer in 1973 with "My Heart Express Train" and released many hit songs such as "Ok-gyeong-yi," "The woman who doesn't even look in the mirror," "Sorry sorry," "Lament," "Companion," and "Is love for anyone?" becoming hugely popular as one of the four great kings of trot alongside Song Daekwan, Sul Woon-do, and Hyun Chul. In particular, recently he has received much support after sharing that he is caring for his wife, Lee Ok-hyung, who is battling dementia.
