Thirteen years have passed since actor Seong In-gyu, formerly of the group A'st1, died.
Seong In-gyu died on Feb. 22, 2013, after battling thymic cancer. He was 24.
Born in 1988, Seong In-gyu began his career as a child actor and appeared in Round and Round, The Rustic Period, and I Can't Stop Them, among others, and in 2000 he played young Min-ho in The Great Lands of Wang Lung, acting as the young counterpart to So Jisub.
From 2008 he began activities as a singer as a member of the group A'st1; they released singles such as One Two Three Back (1.2.3.4. Back) and Dynamite and the team disbanded the following year.
In 2011 Seong In-gyu wrote on his personal minihome page, "In early April 2011 I began having severe chest pain. Feeling that the condition had become serious, I went to the hospital for a CT scan, and a mass was found in my chest and I learned it had metastasized to the veins in my neck."
Recalling a time when he had difficulty breathing because the tumor had spread to his neck, he said, "Since last May I have received six rounds of chemotherapy. Surgery is too risky, so it cannot be done," which drew sympathy.
After revealing his battle with thymic cancer he devoted himself to treatment, but on Feb. 22, 2013, he ultimately could not overcome the illness and died.
Park Jeong-jin, who was a member of A'st1 at the time, mourned the deceased with a tweet saying, "I hope you can now rest peacefully in heaven," and Rainbow members Yoon Hye and Jae-kyung retweeted Park Jeong-jin's post to express their condolences.
