Comedian Park Na-rae showed a faintly amused expression that could not be hidden even behind her glasses during her first suspect interrogation. Support calling it an expression of confidence and criticism calling it deceptive to the public have both emerged.
Park Na-rae appeared at the Seoul Gangnam Police Station on the 20th. She attended for the first time as a person under accusation and was questioned as a suspect, undergoing a lengthy investigation lasting about 7 hours and 30 minutes.
Originally, Park Na-rae's first suspect interrogation had been scheduled for the 11th, before the Lunar New Year holiday. However, it was postponed once due to her lawyers' strong request and health deterioration, among other reasons. Moreover, the Disney+ original variety show "운명전쟁49" released that same day featured Park Na-rae as planned, and although it was pre-recorded, it provoked strong public backlash.
About 10 days later, a police investigation was held again. Park Na-rae's attendance only became known after she entered. Around 3 p.m. that day, it surfaced through a media report about two hours after Park Na-rae had arrived at the police station. This fueled speculation that she had tried to avoid the reporters' photo line when she first scheduled to appear, and it drew further criticism.
However, even Park Na-rae's side could not avoid the walk out of the police station after nearly eight hours of long questioning. Having learned of her attendance and appearing among crowds who waited even during the Lunar New Year holiday, Park Na-rae wore her hair tied back with a hairpin and kept a neat hairstyle. She also appeared tidy in a black coat and glasses. It contrasted with her usual preference for colorful, patterned everyday clothes on various shows and in daily life.
In particular, Park Na-rae drew attention with a faintly amused expression and a calm tone. It contrasted with the serious expression and resolute attitude she showed in the previously released official statement video. As a result, various public interpretations emerged. Some internet users reacted that her confident demeanor even as a first-time suspect recalled actor Lee Jin-uk or singer G-Dragon, who in past separate controversies also smiled while insisting they were innocent when appearing at police stations.
Conversely, despite the controversies and allegations surrounding Park Na-rae not having been resolved, the amused look prompted reactions that it was deceptive to the public. Because Park Na-rae is widely known to have assembled a high-profile legal team from five major domestic law firms, some argued that it was inappropriate to appear confident about winning despite the contentious elements of the dispute.
Currently, Park Na-rae has been accused at the Gangnam Police Station of special injury, defamation by spreading false facts, and violation of the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection (defamation), after being exposed by former managers for workplace harassment, verbal abuse, special assault, nonpayment of appearance fees, unpaid severance, and proxy prescriptions. In response, Park Na-rae has counter-sued the former managers at the Yongsan Police Station on charges including blackmail and embezzlement in the course of business.
