Eight years have passed since late actor Cha Myung-wook died of a heart attack.
Cha Myung-wook died suddenly of a heart attack on Feb. 21, 2018. He was 47.
The late actor left a strong presence as he moved between television and the stage. In particular, PD Min Jin-gi, who worked with him on the drama "Pureun Geotap" and "Circle," recalled the late actor to OSEN at the time and expressed deep condolences.
PD Min Jin-gi recalled, "Actor Cha Myung-wook's TV debut was 'Pureun Geotap', and his first formal TV drama was 'Circle'," and added, "When I first saw him in Daehangno, his strong impression made him seem frightening, and his personality seemed so upright that there was a sense of distance." He continued, "But working together, I learned what a humane and warm person he was."
He added, "So he was an actor who could play any villain without seeming hateful," and emphasized Cha Myung-wook's appeal, saying, "Whether a thug, a murderer, or a beggar role, he had the power to give the sense that there was a backstory inside. It was an acting that seeped in without resistance."
He especially said, "We even had plans to meet other actors next Monday, but he left so suddenly," and expressed the shock at the news, saying, "As an audience member, the saddest thing is that we can no longer see Cha Myung-wook's relaxed acting."
After graduating from Myongji University's Department of Theater, Cha Myung-wook debuted in 1997 with the play "Yokmangui Nopsaebaram." He later won great affection playing the perennial deputy Seo Bong-soo in the hit Daehangno play "Igidongcheyukgwan," and through numerous works such as "Three Sisters," "Mangwon-dong Brothers," and "The Sorrows of Young Werther," he demonstrated an unparalleled presence on stage.
On television, he left his mark on viewers with distinctive performances in "Circle" and "Pureun Geotap," and in the film "Keys to the Heart" he appeared as the boxing gym owner, leaving a brief but strong impression.
