'Woonmyeong War 49' production team apologized for using the death of the late fire lieutenant Kim Cheol-hong as broadcast material.
On the 22nd, the production team of the Disney+ original entertainment program 'Woonmyeong War 49' issued an apology, saying, "We express deep respect for the sacrifice and conviction of fire lieutenant Kim Cheol-hong, who lost his life while devoted to protecting the people, and we offer our sincere condolences to the bereaved family."
In the apology, the production team explained, "'Woonmyeong War 49' began with the question of whether a person's fate can be read," and added, "Given the program's purpose, various lives and deaths would be introduced, so we wanted to use it as an opportunity to reflect on meaningful and noble stories. This is the reason we chose Lieutenant Kim's story."
They continued, "Before filming, we explained to the bereaved family that this program is a survival-style show featuring fortune-tellers and that it would illuminate the deceased's fate through saju, and we obtained the family's written consent to use the portrait, name, and birth date and time. At the filming site, we held a moment of silent prayer to honor the deceased and prayed for his repose."
However, they said, "We later learned that some bereaved family members and relatives only received information about the prior consent process after the broadcast." In response, the 'Woonmyeong War 49' production team added, "We will continue to explain and clear up misunderstandings. We humbly accept many people's criticisms and will strive to gain understanding and sympathy from both viewers and those directly involved. We sincerely apologize to the bereaved family and fellow firefighters who were hurt."
In the recently released 'Woonmyeong War 49,' the faces and birth dates of the fallen firefighter Kim Cheol-hong were revealed during a mission in which participants tried to deduce the cause of death of the deceased, drawing strong criticism.
