Actor Cho Han-gyeol is showcasing his presence with deeper emotional acting in "Undercover Miss Hong."
"Undercover Miss Hong" is a retro office comedy drama set at the end of the 1990s, in which elite securities regulator Hong Geum-bo (Park Shin-hye) goes undercover by taking a fake job at a securities firm to trace suspicious funds. Cho Han-gyeol plays Albert Oh, the only grandson of the chairman of Hanmin Securities and the only son of Executive Director Oh Deok-gyu, portraying a free-spirited, orange-generation cinephile character.
The Albet Oh played by Cho Han-gyeol had always brushed situations off with mischief and ease, but he faced a change that prevented him from taking things lightly amid fierce narratives of conflict surrounding Geum-bo and an organizational reshuffle.
At the moment when the conflict between Deputy General Manager Cha (played by Im Cheol-su) and Geum-bo exploded, Albet conveyed his inner feelings toward Geum-bo through silent actions without exaggerated emotional expression. Even when the crisis management headquarters was disbanded due to the organizational reshuffle and Geum-bo meekly handed in her resignation, Albet's trembling gaze revealed anxiety. Cho Han-gyeol naturally built up these subtle emotional changes to convey the character's depth. Also, when Department Head Bang (played by Kim Do-hyun) said, "Be good to your sister," suspicion about Geum-bo's identity began to sprout, creating curiosity and tension about the new developments in the drama.
What shone especially in episodes 9 and 10 was Cho Han-gyeol's calm yet illuminating performance as a positive character. Even without exploding emotionally, he made it clear through his acting that the character's emotions were shaken by the disbandment of the crisis management headquarters and Geum-bo's resignation, and by moving around the company and cheerfully taking care of Geum-bo and team members, his sense of responsibility and sincerity gradually emerged, allowing the character Albet Oh to plausibly take his place as a pillar of Hanmin Securities.
Even in his cheeky tone and relaxed manner toward Geum-bo, whom he has a one-sided crush on, Cho Han-gyeol gradually reveals deeper looks, unfolding Albet Oh's changes step by step and leaving a strong impression. As the parachute hire shoulders responsibility for the headquarters and faces reality for the first time, viewers' attention turns to the next narrative that Cho Han-gyeol will develop.
