The cause of death of actor Peter Green, who left a strong impression as the vicious sheriff Zed in the movie Pulp Fiction, was officially confirmed two months after his death. He was 60.
According to Page Six's report on the 18th (local time), the New York City medical examiner's office said Green's cause of death was "damage to the brachial artery caused by a left axillary gunshot wound." This means that a bullet fired into the left armpit area damaged the major artery supplying blood to the arm, causing excessive bleeding. Authorities ruled it an accidental gunshot.
Green was found unconscious at about 3:25 p.m. on Dec. 12, 2025, in an apartment on Clinton Street in the Lower East Side of New York. At the time, police said there were no signs of homicide.
A neighbor told local media, "He was lying face down on the floor, and there were facial injuries and bloodstains." A note was reportedly found at the scene that read "I'm still a Westie." The phrase evokes the Irish organization the Westies, which operated out of New York's Hell's Kitchen in the 1970s.
Longtime manager Greg Edwards mourned, "He was one of the greatest actors of our generation. His heart was bigger than anyone's." He also said Green had been scheduled for surgery to remove a benign tumor near his lung the day he was found.
Edwards recalled, "He was very calm on our last call, and we exchanged well wishes and support," adding, "We had been friends for more than 10 years. He was a truly warm person."
Born in 1965 in Montclair, New Jersey, Green established himself in the 1990s as one of Hollywood's leading character actors specializing in villains. He played the brutal serial killer Zed in Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction and made a strong impression as Dorian Tyrell, a mafia member, in The Mask.
He also appeared in more than 95 films, including Laws of Gravity, Clean, Shaven, Blue Streak and Training Day.
The manager mourned, "He was one of the best character actors on the planet. He played villains better than anyone, but in real life he had a heart of gold."
