'Why leave it behind' Chef Jung Ho-young revealed his candid feelings about having declined the offer to appear in season 1 of the Netflix hit Culinary Class Wars and explained why he appeared in season 2.
On the afternoon of the 18th broadcast on tvN STORY 'Why leave it behind,' to mark Seollal, the nation's largest holiday, Iyoo-ri, Lee Dae-ho, Jung Ho-young and other welcome food friends presented an extravagant New Year spread as a Seollal special.
Pak Se-ri opened the show by bowing deeply and saying, "Dear viewers, happy new year," with sincere respect. But she soon asked Lee Young-ja whether that was the correct way to bow, drawing laughter. Lee Young-ja wittily explained, "Are you getting married? This is the deep bow for weddings," and Pak Se-ri, in hanbok, candidly remarked, "The clothes feel so unfamiliar," attracting attention.
Then Lee Young-ja offered a spirited new year greeting, saying, "Let's stride forward in the year of the red horse with momentum," and Pak Se-ri declared her ambitious intentions, saying, "So we have boldly prepared in Yangpyeong."
As the atmosphere heated up, chef Jung Ho-young appeared and presented fish cake soup filled with plenty of sujigae. When Pak Se-ri mentioned Jung Ho-young's usual popularity, Lee Young-ja raised the topic of the newly spotlighted chefs thanks to Culinary Class Wars. Jung Ho-young nodded and said, "I was somewhat overshadowed," then added, "I was pushed to the back. I thought, this won't do. I should go to season 2," which drew laughter.
In particular, Jung Ho-young confessed the real reason he had declined the offer to appear in season 1 of Culinary Class Wars. Responding to Lee Young-ja's remark that losing in a cooking contest would be humiliating, he explained, "I was contacted for season 1, but I refused because I was worried about that."
He went on to admit his honest fear, saying, "I worried that if I couldn't show much cooking and got eliminated, I might look like someone who can't cook," but added, "After watching season 1, even those who were eliminated were popular. I thought, should I try this?" and explained why he decided to appear in season 2.
