Lee Mi-Sook and Kang Sukwoo, reunited after 40 years, showcased their chemistry.
On the 19th at MBC in Sangam-dong, Seoul, MBC held a production press conference for the new Friday-Saturday drama In Your Radiant Season.
The event was hosted by Park Kyung-rim, and actors Lee Sung-kyoung, Chae Jong Hyeop, Lee Mi-Sook, Kang Sukwoo, Han Ji-hyun, Oh Yeju, and director Jung Sang-hee attended.
In Your Radiant Season, a new MBC Friday-Saturday drama scheduled to premiere on the 20th (Fri) at 9:50 p.m., (planned by Namgung Seong-woo / written by Jo Seong-hee / directed by Jung Sang-hee and Kim Young-jae / produced by Pan Entertainment) is a work that depicts an unpredictable "radiant" romance in which a man, Chan, who lives every day like an exciting summer vacation, and a woman, Ran, who has locked herself in winter, meet as if by fate and awaken frozen time.
In Your Radiant Season weaves a dense narrative as characters of different generations, genders and occupations become entangled. Centered on the fateful meeting of Seon Woo-chan (played by Chae Jong Hyeop), who lives every day like an exciting summer vacation, and Song Ha-ran (played by Lee Sung-kyoung), who has locked herself in winter, the story connects figures who embody different seasons: Korea's representative first-generation fashion designer Kim Na-na (played by Lee Mi-Sook) and three sisters, and Park Man-jae (played by Kang Sukwoo), who runs the cafe "Sheim" in a quiet alley, forming a single axis.
Kang Sukwoo, who will portray a "twilight romance" with Lee Mi-Sook, said, "Was it the year before last? After Goodbye Earth ended, the reception wasn't good. I thought my acting career was over. I also heard that people my age have trouble memorizing lines on set, so I thought the scene was over for me. But when I met the director, I thought the person had such a beautiful heart, a kind nature and a beautiful view of the world, and I liked that," explaining why he chose the project.
He continued, "The decisive thing was hearing that Lee Mi-Sook would appear. There was a story left unfinished in my heart from a film that was released exactly 40 years ago. So I thought I should finish it this time," and added, "After meeting her, I didn't feel the same heart-racing excitement as before, but on set she treats me like a longtime friend. On set she really puts me through it. I have the heart of an actor, but I was also very happy because I wanted to show fans who watched the film what I might look like 40 years later. So I decided not to quit acting. I'll do it again," attracting attention.
Lee Mi-Sook also spoke about reuniting with Kang Sukwoo after 40 years. Lee Mi-Sook said, "Strangely, I had no opportunity to meet Kang Sukwoo after that. It didn't feel like that much time had passed. Then we got to work together, and the chemistry—well. The sensibilities we matched from our youth were latent, so I was very glad. Above all, he is very mature," and Kang Sukwoo made the audience laugh by saying, "I'm almost 70 soon."
Lee Mi-Sook added, "He is a very mature person. Isn't he at an age where it's easy to be called an old man? If someone is stubborn, that can happen, but he is gentle on set, and there is much to learn from him. Above all, aren't many twilight narratives missing from our dramas? When depicting such stories, characters are often someone's grandmother or the like. But our drama is about restarting life by our will, with my choices and responsibilities. It feels like the right people have come together for that," she said, creating a warm impression.
