Reality star Brandi Glanville finally revealed the real cause of the facial deformity that plagued her for years. While she had long claimed, "I was infected with parasites in Morocco," she confessed that the real cause was a ruptured breast implant and silicone leakage from 18 years ago.
According to the Daily Mail's report on the 18th (local time), Glanville said in a recent interview, "There were parasites too, but the implant was completely ruptured and the silicone spread to the lymph nodes," and explained, "That caused the facial infection, and the lymph nodes were blocked so it couldn't be expelled."
She underwent surgery to remove the implants from Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Ariel Ourian. The medical team removed remnants of the ruptured implant during surgery and suctioned out leaked silicone.
The doctor said, "The condition was worse than expected," and afterward inserted new implants. Glanville described it as a "life-saving surgery."
Before the surgery she confessed, "The right was completely ruptured, and the left was leaking as well. It was terrifying." She said the condition was so severe she wore hats because she even experienced hair loss.
Glanville spent $130,000 (about 170 million won) to restore her face and said she visited 21 doctors. At one point she was so desperate she even tried the extreme measure of putting hair-removal cream on her face and suffered burns.
She said, "There really is something called breast implant illness," and added, "Implants should be replaced every 10 years. I thought, 'If it's fine, don't touch it,' but I learned a big lesson."
The incident dealt a heavy blow not only to her health but also financially and mentally. She admitted, "At one point I didn't want to be here anymore," and confessed she experienced severe depression and isolation.
Fortunately, she met infection and immunology specialist Michael R. Scoma, who guided her treatment, and her facial condition then noticeably improved.
She is currently undergoing laser treatment and additional recovery with two Beverly Hills specialists. One week after the surgery she said, "My joint pain is gone, and I'm ready to live my life again."
Glanville emphasized, "I'm not saying don't get plastic surgery. But be sure to get regular checkups and combine them with ultrasound exams." She added, "Mammograms can affect implants, so you need to manage them more thoroughly."
After years of suffering from facial deformity, hair loss and dental problems, Glanville, who has made a dramatic recovery, now said she "wants to enjoy life again" and announced a new start.
