'The Return of SUPERMAN' actor Shim Hyungtak felt simply grateful for the existence of his wife, Saya.
On the 18th, the KBS2TV variety show 'The Return of SUPERMAN' (hereinafter 'The Return') aired an episode in which actor Shim Hyungtak and Saya's son Haru held his first birthday party. Comedian Son Minsu served as master of ceremonies in person, and guests included Shim Hyungtak and Saya as a couple, the owner couple of a chicken restaurant who are close to them, Saya's family from Japan, and hanbok artisan Park Sulnyeo.
Shim Hyungtak said, "My family caused me suffering to the point of death, and it was my wife, Saya, who put an oxygen mask on me," and "Saya, I think I'm getting old. Suddenly tears well up," as he swallowed tears while holding Haru. Because of investments by family members he trusted, he had sold his house and gone missing for several years; during that time he met Saya, decided to return to public life, and has been living a changed life. Shim Hyungtak's words were truly moving.
It was especially meaningful that Saya's parents and her sister's family, the whole family, attended. Originally, Saya's Japanese family, who welcomed Shim Hyungtak, took time out of their busy business schedule to come. Haru's maternal grandfather said, "December and January are always busy so we can't travel at the end of the year, but we were able to come to Korea for Haru's first birthday party."
Saya said, "My sister and her husband and the nieces and nephews are traveling abroad for the first time. It could have been inconvenient and difficult for my sister and her husband, but they all came like this," and described her sister and her husband's efforts, such as obtaining passports for the nieces and nephews to come here. Kim Jongmin said, "Saya's family really took care of Shim Hyungtak a lot. It must have been a truly happy time for Hyungtak, who needed family," and Saya said, "Shim Hyungtak keeps saying he has no Korean family, but our family is all Shim Hyungtak's family," conveying warmth.
In her congratulatory speech, Saya said, "Exactly one year ago this afternoon Haru was born. I think the reason a day like today came is thanks to the people who came here. Haru, thank you for making us parents," and "And my strength, Shim who has been like a parenting father, thank you so much," and added, "Shim keeps asking me where there is a father who parents so well, but I don't want to praise him. So I'll praise him from now on, so please stay still," which caused laughter.
Shim Hyungtak said, "When I said I was old and that the time with Saya might be short, Saya said she would stay with me until the end. That promise has become an enormous source of strength for me. To you who are like iron, to you who have a computer-like mind, I will be your desk," and while delivering his reply speech he had to swallow tears again.
Park Sulnyeo, who attended the couple's wedding and made Haru's first birthday hanbok as well as the 100-day and 200-day hanboks and the hanboks for Shim Hyungtak and his wife, said, "It is so moving that the couple had a baby, and it is even more moving that I could come to the first birthday party. Please give a lot of support to this couple who live virtuously," and asked for blessings.
