Comedian Kim Joon-hyun has been embroiled in an unexpected attitude controversy over a video of him arriving at work, sparking heated debate.
Recently, a roughly 20-second clip showing Kim Joon-hyun arriving at the broadcasting station spread across online communities. The scene is reported to show him visiting the station on the 10th to record KBS2 The Seasons - 10cm's Ssdam Ssdam.
In the video, Kim Joon-hyun walked into the building checking his phone under an umbrella his manager held over him in bad weather. Fans who were filming at the entrance greeted him with cheers such as "hello" and "Kim Joon-hyun, fighting," but he appeared to pass by without much reaction.
But inside the building a scene was captured in which he greeted a broadcasting official with a bright expression, bowed at the waist and exchanged handshakes. Some netizens criticized, saying, "expressionless to fans, overly eager with officials," calling it 'strong-weak-weak-strong.'
However, as additional arrival videos from various times were shared, opinions became more divided. Compiling the videos, some note that Kim Joon-hyun repeatedly responded to fans by briefly nodding or offering a glance instead of waving enthusiastically or stopping. In that regard, some argued, "it's just his usual way of greeting, hard to see it as a snub."
Some internet users urged caution, saying, "it's unreasonable to conclude from only a 20-second video," and "we should avoid overinterpreting a momentary captured scene."
His past remarks were also revisited amid the controversy. Kim Joon-hyun left Comedy TV's Delicious Guys in July 2021, saying, "I wanted to put down familiar things and regroup." Later, at the production presentation for THE Delicious Guys in June 2024, he confessed, "At that time I had an obsession that I had to do something new. It was really the wrong idea," and "I was arrogant and ashamed. I realized I should be grateful for what I can continue."
Kim Joon-hyun is currently appearing on KBS2 Immortal Songs and Delicious Guys.
The controversy triggered by the 20-second video is still ongoing. However, a more balanced perspective seems necessary on whether the "visible scene" is the whole story and whether there is other context.
