MBC Lunar New Year special three-part series 'Discovery of the dining table' part 2 will air today (17th) Tuesday at 8:10 p.m.
'Discovery of the dining table' is a three-part Lunar New Year special program that sets out to find the care and wisdom hidden on the dining table, and the Republic of Korea's top chefs reinterpret the real "K-food" and "Korean cuisine culture" found at everyday tables to present them as distinctive meals.
On Lunar New Year's Day today (17th), MBC's
At Bongnyeongsa, a temple in the city, MC Jang Geun-seok and chefs Yun Nam-no, Fabri and David Lee meet "domestic temple food master no. 1" Monk Seonjae and spend time learning the philosophy behind temple food. From seasoned vegetable dishes using the monk's homemade "susu gochujang" to lotus root dishes flavored with a secret stock, Monk Seonjae's know-how is revealed in detail, raising everyone's expectations. After tasting it, Yun Nam-no shows a voracious eating scene, saying, "I've never eaten this in my life," drawing attention.
Before lunch, Monk Seonjae offers the dining table members a cup of tea and explains, "It is a tea that helped me a lot when I had a hard time about 30 years ago due to deteriorating health," drawing attention. After drinking it, Fabri immediately reacts, saying, "My stomach already feels better," raising viewers' curiosity. The peaceful atmosphere lasts only a moment; while preparing food in the kitchen, Yun Nam-no receives Monk Seonjae's scolding(?), and Fabri, who watches, also breaks into a sweat. What action by Yun Nam-no provoked Monk Seonjae's scolding?
Meanwhile, under the guidance of temple food master Monk Seonjae, Jang Geun-seok and the "dining table" chefs hold a special cooking competition on the theme "a table of emptying for myself." Those who have lived fiercely to serve others prepare a meal that comforts and fills themselves for this one day, entering a different kind of contest.
The heat of the competition is intense. Fabri presents a shocking fusion dish combining temple food and Italian flavors, and Yun Nam-no, "the prodigal of the culinary world," surprises with a reversal menu armed with unusual seriousness. In addition, contestants compete in the program's first-ever four-person head-to-head battle for Monk Seonjae's "20-year-aged traditional soy sauce," allowed only for the winner. Who will be the one to best fit the theme of "emptying" while filling the best taste?
The results of the special "dining table" cooking competition held at the temple can be seen on today's (17th) Tuesday broadcast of 'Discovery of the dining table' at 8:10 p.m.<
