Jekskis member Jang Soo-won, formerly of Jekskis, released the full version of a Bali trip video that had spread amid a "child-rearing controversy" and directly clarified the situation.
On the 15th, a video titled "Traveling to a luxury resort in Bali with a 1-year-old child…is it really okay?" was posted on the YouTube channel JangSooWonHaeyo. Earlier, only part of the pool scene released as a short (Shorts) was shown, which fueled the controversy; the new video contained the full context before and after the incident.
In the video, Jang Soo-won visited a resort in Bali, Indonesia, with a private pool along with his wife, stylist Ji Sang-eun, and their daughter Seo-woo. The problematic scene occurred on the kids' pool water slide.
His wife repeatedly urged, "Don't let water get on her face," and Jang Soo-won said, "I'll go in," carrying their daughter as they rode the slide. However, they lost balance as the slide was faster than expected, both submerged in water, and the startled Seo-woo coughed and burst into tears.
Seeing this, his wife, with a flustered expression, said, "Why are you doing that?" and showed concern. On screen, a caption appeared reading, "A mother who was more concerned because of the possibility of Bali belly." The situation explained their concern over waterborne gastroenteritis commonly experienced locally, known as "Bali belly."
Jang Soo-won apologized, saying, "The slide was faster than I thought. I should have checked the water depth first," and "I'm sorry." In the previously released short video, the wife was shown covering the child's face with a T-shirt, prompting some internet users to criticize it as "excessive parenting." The production team explained, "The child was not actually crying heavily, and the editing made the scene look more serious."
With the release of the full video, the atmosphere at the time became clearer. His wife voiced her worries, saying, "If she gets diarrhea it's all your fault," and Jang Soo-won awkwardly laughed, saying, "This is not what I had simulated in my head." Afterwards, Seo-woo appeared to have regained her composure.
At the end of the video, a caption was added reading, "Always test the bridge before crossing when playing with children." The production team also said, "We will be more careful with editing in the future," closing the controversy.
Meanwhile, Jang Soo-won married stylist Ji Sang-eun, who is one year older, in 2021, and after nine rounds of in vitro fertilization she gave birth to their daughter Seo-woo last year.<
