Director Wang Hyeryeong and writer Lee Seryeong revealed what sets "Lovephobia" apart from other works.
The new drama "Lovephobia," which will premiere on the 19th at 11 p.m. on U+mobiletv and Lifetime (written by Lee Seryeong, directed by Wang Hyeryeong, produced by WEMAD), tells the story of Yoon Bia (Yeonwoo), the CEO of a dating app who is more comfortable with AI than with people, and Han Seonho (Kim Hyunjin), a romantic novelist, who design smart relationships with AI and come to realize the true meaning of love, and it will be available first through U+mobiletv VOD.
Director Wang Hyeryeong, who described Lovephobia as an "experiment and a challenge," said she took on directing because "within the romantic comedy genre it was attractive to be able to boldly portray the subject of AI and sci-fi imagination," and added as a directing point, "this work honestly confronts the fear of love while warmly depicting the process of doing so, and it does not lose its distinctive wit. I sought a balance that naturally draws empathy amid laughter and wit." Lovephobia, which amusingly unpacks the essence of the emotion of love, is ready to gently seep into viewers' hearts.
Writer Lee Seryeong, who wrote the screenplay, focused on rapidly changing times. Lee explained the planning intent as "as times change, the forms of love are also becoming more diverse. The work started from the question, 'what will love look like in the future?'" and emphasized, "I want to convey the message that even if people are hurt by love and people and become afraid to love again, they should try to find the courage to do so."
Director Wang Hyeryeong also expressed firm confidence in the lead actors. He praised, "Actor Yeonwoo can authentically portray the character Yoon Bia with eyes that contain both solidity and emptiness, and actor Kim Hyunjin is a figure who, with clear emotional expression, can encompass both Han Seonho's romanticism and cynicism." He continued, "Jo Yunseo made Seol Jaehee more attractive with honest and confident energy, and Choi Byungchan enlivened the rhythm of the piece with natural acting that balances wit and sincerity," praising the actors' performances.
With such appealing characters gathered, writer Lee Seryeong cited 'ways of approaching love' as a main viewing point to heighten the drama's immersion. Lee said, "Yoon Bia, Han Seonho and Seol Jaehee accept love in distinctly different ways.
