Jang Su-won, a former member of Sechs Kies, released the full version of a Bali trip video that had spread amid a "child-rearing controversy" and clarified the situation.
On the 15th, a video titled "Is a luxurious Bali resort with a 1-year-old child really okay?" was posted on the YouTube channel "Jang Su-won haeyo." It contained the full before-and-after context of the Bali pool scene that had become controversial after some shorts videos were released.
That day, Jang Su-won went on a family trip to Bali, Indonesia, with his wife and daughter Seo-woo. They started swimming in earnest at a resort with a private pool, and the problematic scene occurred on the kids' pool water slide.
His wife repeatedly urged, "Don't let water get on our daughter's face," and Jang Su-won said, "I'll go in," holding his daughter as they rode the slide. However, they lost their balance because it was faster than expected, and both submerged; a startled Seo-woo coughed and burst into tears.
Seeing this, his wife could not hide her shock, saying, "Why are you doing that?" A caption appeared on screen: "A mother who was more worried because of possible 'Bali belly'." It explained that she had become more sensitive out of concern for "Bali belly," the traveler's diarrhea common in the Bali area.
Jang Su-won apologized repeatedly, saying, "The slide was faster than I thought. I should have checked the water depth first," and kept saying, "I'm sorry." In an earlier shorts video that was released, his wife was shown covering the child's face with a T-shirt, prompting some criticism calling it "overprotective parenting," but the production team explained, "She wasn't actually crying; the editing made the mood look serious."
With the release of the full video, the situation at the time became clearer. Afterwards, his wife poured out her worries, saying, "If she has diarrhea, it's all dad's fault," and Jang Su-won smiled awkwardly, saying, "This wasn't what I had simulated in my head." Fortunately, daughter Seo-woo regained her composure.
At the end of the video, a caption was added: "When playing with children, always check even a seemingly solid bridge." The production team also said, "We will be more careful with editing in the future," bringing the controversy to a close.
Meanwhile, Jang Su-won married stylist Ji Sang-eun, who is one year older, in 2021, and after nine rounds of in vitro fertilization, welcomed daughter Seo-woo last year.<
