Seoul National University graduate and former announcer Lee Hye-seong advanced to round 2 of "The World's Bakery" in 31st place, that is, last place.
On the broadcast of MBN's "The World's Bakery" on the 15th, Lee Hye-seong appeared in round 1 and said, "It has been about five years since I obtained the baking technician certificate," adding, "I don't currently run a bakery, but I have set up a small workshop and have been steadily baking bread."
She went on, "After I was hired as an announcer, there was a time I gained 10 kg from binge eating bread," saying, "Even while dieting, I couldn't give up bread," showing her genuine passion for sourdough.
She ultimately received a passing score, but after round 1 ended, the rankings of the 31 contestants advancing to round 2 were revealed without notice. The contestants, gathered at the bread factory amid cheers, could not hide their bewilderment at being lined up from first to 31st place.
On that day the person who landed in the lowest position, 31st place, was Lee Hye-seong. Right after the ranking was announced she showed a stern expression, and later in an interview she confessed, "To be honest, I was a bit shocked."
But she soon changed her attitude. Lee Hye-seong said, "On the contrary, I'm now determined. I'll show how far the last-place contestant can go," revealing her fighting spirit.
Earlier Lee Hye-seong said she was in her fifth year since obtaining the baking technician certificate and expressed her affection for "sourdough." Her background of cultivating her own "levain" and traveling to San Francisco to study fermented breads proved her "sincerity about bread." However, the results were ruthless.
The revealed round 2 mission will proceed as a team contest, the "pop-up store" war. The cruel rule that the first- and second-place teams all survive while the eighth-place team is entirely eliminated was added. Lee Hye-seong joined the 31st-place "A day that needs hangover relief" team and will take on the re-challenge amid what is essentially an outsider-team atmosphere.<
