American singer D4vd (real name David Anthony Burke) has been identified as a leading suspect in the death of a 15-year-old girl, and the family is refusing to comply with a subpoena for witnesses.
On the 12th (local time), TMZ reported, "It appears there has been a major development in the Dv4d case. Prosecutors are trying to have the singer's mother, father and brother testify before a California grand jury, but the family says they will not comply."
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Dv4d's family argues that the court order requiring them to testify in California violates due process.
The family, who live in Texas, say they were provided the affidavit that formed the basis of the Texas lower court order to summon them as witnesses in the California grand jury proceedings only in a censored (edited) form. Because of this, they say they could not know why they were classified as "important witnesses" and were not afforded an opportunity to contest that determination.
The outlet said, "A grand jury concerning the murder of 15-year-old Celeste Rivas has been convened since at least November of last year, and several witnesses have already testified," and added, "Multiple sources say Dv4d is likely to be charged with Celeste's murder."
However, the current legal dispute is not expected to drag on. The appeals court set a deadline of 10 days for the trial court to respond.
Dv4d is an American singer-songwriter who held a concert in Korea last year and appeared on cable channel Mnet's "M Countdown," and he is a popular Gen Z artist.
Earlier, the mutilated body of 15-year-old Celeste Rivas, who had been reported missing, was found in the trunk of a Tesla vehicle he owned, shocking the public. Celeste had run away in January 2024 and had been missing for more than a year. Police investigated him as a "primary suspect."
