Singer Sung Si Kyung confessed that after the embezzlement case involving a former manager, he even lost his voice and thought about retiring.
The SBS "Lunar New Year special concert Sung Si Kyung" broadcast on the afternoon of the 14th is the TV version of "Concert Sung Si Kyung," held from Dec. 25 to 28 last year.
Standing on stage, Sung Si Kyung said, "Actually, this was a concert I decided to do with great courage. I really wanted to rest. I thought I should rest. But if I rest, I feel like I'll be buried by dark energy. I wasn't confident, but I went ahead. I'm still trembling and scared and I prepared a lot," and added, "I also quit smoking for five weeks and it feels like it's time to stop completely. I also drastically reduced drinking. I was thinking, 'Is this Buddhism?' to the point that I only thought about the concert."
During the performance, Sung Si Kyung said, "I think I'm a bit twisted. I'll just speak honestly, speak quickly and start," and added, "A lot happened to me and it was really, really hard. My body seems to have suffered. Recently in Japan my voice completely disappeared. It was the first time in 25 years since I was born that I was so shocked. I thought, 'Ah, this is retirement.' I sincerely considered taking a break from performing, but the reason I decided to go on was that I wanted to try walking it off, wanted to get better."
He continued, "This is a bit shameless. People seeing me for the first time might think, 'What's wrong with that guy?' but I thought I should ask the fans to give it a try," adding, "Wouldn't it just work? Has there been a singer like me who doesn't hand over the microphone. If I don't perform like this, I feel like I will sink, so at that time I had the shameless thought that I should borrow the fans' strength."
Sung Si Kyung also said, "If I become washed up, I'll admit I've become washed up," and added, "At 53, I wonder if I can still passionately sing 'You were moving' in the same key. Of course there are seniors like Na Hoon-a and unique heroes like Cho Yong-pil, but personally it was such a hard time that I thought, 'I should think about the end.' Today I plan to pour everything out. Please sing along; I will gain a lot of strength," revealing his sincere feelings.
Earlier, it was revealed that Sung Si Kyung suffered financial damage of several hundred million won from former manager A, who had worked with him for nearly 20 years and had been treated like family to the point of even covering wedding expenses, causing great shock and regret. The manager was known to have led and handled all practical aspects of management for performances and broadcasts related to Sung Si Kyung, as well as advertising, events and overall management, and the agency said it recognized the seriousness and felt deep remorse for its supervisory responsibility.
Subsequently, Mr. A received a non-prosecution disposition regarding the charge of embezzlement in the course of duty, and Sung Si Kyung's side forgave him, expressing that they did not wish further investigation or punishment to proceed.
