Former soccer player Kim Nam-il opened a hamburger restaurant and admitted it was operating at a loss.
On the 13th, the YouTube channel Ahn Jung-hwan 19 uploaded a video titled "Why do soccer players get scammed so easily? Why were past coaches' training methods like that? If given another chance, what training would you definitely want to do?" The video featured former soccer player Kim Ho-nam.
Kim Ho-nam revealed what prompted him to wake up to financial planning after becoming a father of twins during his playing career. He said, "At that time there were many people who could smell money amazingly well. There were people who approached public servants or soccer players, and someone approached me too. That person said, 'If you invest in this, you'll get a fixed monthly income of 5 million won,' and told me to put the business name in my name and only invest the money," explaining what led him to open a gamjatang restaurant.
Fortunately, profits were later recovered, but in the early days after opening he ran a deficit of 10 million won a month. In response, Ahn Jung-hwan pointed at Kim Nam-il and said, "He's being taken advantage of too," He then revealed with a laugh, "He was annoyed that the hamburger shop made 300,000 won a day," which drew laughter. In fact, Kim Nam-il opened a hamburger shop near Gangnam Station in Seoul last December and has been operating it.
Perhaps because of that, Kim Nam-il listened intently to Kim Ho-nam's process of opening and closing businesses. He persistently probed intimate details, asking, "How much did you get for the goodwill payment when you sold it?" Ahn Jung-hwan poked back, "Why are you asking about that? Is this some kind of startup program? You're asking because you're anxious since your hamburger shop isn't doing well, aren't you?"
Kim Nam-il also questioned Kim Ho-nam, "Which club were you with at the time? There may be coaches who want players to focus only on soccer." Kim Ho-nam replied, "I was with Bucheon at the time, and I thought that perspective was something I naturally had to endure. When I joined the team I disclosed that I was operating a business and had it specified in the contract.
