GREE directly explained the controversy surrounding his participation in a broadcast recording on the day of his discharge.
On the 14th, a video covering GREE's recent activities was released on the YouTube channel "GREEGURA." In the video, Kim Gu Ra addressed and explained the controversy that arose regarding his son.
Kim Gu Ra said, "It is easy to think that you immediately become a civilian when you are discharged, but under Ministry of National Defense regulations, military status is maintained until midnight on the day of discharge," adding, "I think that is where the misunderstanding arose." He added, "If an accident happens that day, there is a structure to be tried by a military court."
In response, GREE directly explained the military service regulations. He said, "If you cause an incident on the day of discharge, you are tried by the military," and explained, "It is intended to prevent discharged soldiers from becoming excessively free." He added, "You are not supposed to engage in profit-making activities while holding military status, but the appearance on 'Radio Star' proceeded after obtaining prior unit approval," he emphasized.
GREE said, "There are people who do not know this process well, so the controversy seems to have arisen," and reiterated, "We followed the procedures and filmed." He drew a line against the claim that participating in the MBC variety show "Radio Star" on the day of discharge was a violation of military law.
He also spoke about the so-called "dad chance" allegation. GREE said, "There are those who say I appeared because of 'dad chance,' and it's true that having my father made the opportunity easier," but explained, "The producers also wanted that image and cast accordingly."
Kim Gu Ra said, "There is a misunderstanding: 'Radio Star' is not a program you enter by drawing a number," and added, "I learned later that Donghyun was filming. There was no prior coordination or request." GREE also recounted the situation at the time, saying, "I was approached when I was at the end of my sergeant term, and the request was to come out immediately after discharge."
Meanwhile, GREE enlisted voluntarily in the Marine Corps in July 2024 and served in the 2nd Division artillery brigade, and was discharged on Jan. 28. Afterward, controversy erupted over his participation in a broadcast recording on the day of his discharge, but the Marine Corps said it was "a normal procedure carried out with the unit's prior approval." <
