Comedian Hong Hyun-hee's husband Jasson left a lengthy explanation regarding the criticism that they are "arm people," but debate continues. He explained in detail everything from Hong Hyun-hee's dieting process to the reason for creating the product, but failed to persuade the public. Was Jasson's sincerity distorted, or was a key point missing from his statement?
Hong Hyun-hee recently said she achieved a weight of 49kg after her diet success, drawing attention. After giving birth to her first son, Junbeom, she had been winning favor by sharing various childcare routines on the couple's YouTube channel with Jasson, and Hong Hyun-hee completed a "visual peak" through dieting, becoming a hot topic day after day.
In particular, it was even more talked about that Hong Hyun-hee reportedly lost weight healthily through exercise and blood sugar management without using popular drugs such as Wegovy or Mounjaro. Her everyday photos and swimsuit fit that Hong Hyun-hee shared became an entertainment industry issue. She later detailed her diet secrets, "blood sugar management" and intermittent fasting, via YouTube and social media.
While Hong Hyun-hee was gaining attention for her "no Wegovy" diet, Jasson planned and launched a product. The result was a huge hit. It sold out within four hours of launching, proving strong interest and popularity.
And unintentionally, Hong Hyun-hee and Jasson faced criticism calling them "arm people." That was because Hong Hyun-hee's weight loss content eventually led to Jasson's business item. Ultimately, Hong Hyun-hee's efforts to promote healthy dieting without Wegovy were overshadowed.
As the fallout continued, Jasson posted a lengthy statement on his social media on the 13th to explain the "arm people" allegations. He said he created the product to allow Hong Hyun-hee, who was regaining healthy eating habits, to consume vinegar, oils and vegetables more safely and with consistent quality, and clarified that it is an "ordinary food," not a diet drug or a health functional food.
Jasson said, "I commercialized the vinegar, oil and vegetables that Hyun-hee consistently consumed during her process of regaining healthy eating habits so they could be consumed more safely and with consistent quality," and drew a line, saying, "She did not take Wegovy or Mounjaro, she was not prescribed them, and there are no plans to do so."
He also said Hong Hyun-hee's weight loss success was the result of effort, not simply because she consumed the product. Jasson explained, "For people who do not see Hyun-hee often, it may seem like she suddenly lost weight, but it is the result of Hyun-hee's long-term efforts, including pilates and regularly walking every day."
Jasson said, "This is not simply about selling a product but the result of 고민하며 준비한 결과물 to help Hyun-hee consistently consume good foods within a lifelong healthy routine," adding, "It is something my family and I eat, and we showed that process transparently on video. If it can be even a small help to people with concerns similar to Hyun-hee's, I think that is enough."
Despite Jasson's lengthy statement, public opinion did not change, and he could not fully shed the "arm people" image. Is Jasson's sincerity being distorted? That may be possible, but his statement lacked specific mentions related to the public's criticism of "Hong Hyun-hee's promotion."
What many people point out is not that Jasson launched a diet product or that Hong Hyun-hee's weight loss was ultimately thanks to the product. It was the "sales build-up" that started with Hong Hyun-hee's diet content and eventually led to a product launch. Not only in YouTube content but also in many of Hong Hyun-hee's social media posts, the product is explained and promoted. Because Hong Hyun-hee had previously said she lost weight through exercise and healthy eating habits without Wegovy, people felt disappointed that it ended up being product promotion.
But Jasson seemed to insist, as if the public did not recognize Hong Hyun-hee's efforts for dieting, and repeatedly explained only that aspect. It was a grand illusion on his part.
