'A disaster she brought on herself' is exactly what you would say about Hwang Bo-ra. Her greed was way over the line.
Earlier on the 11th, actress Hwang Bo-ra left a promotional video on her personal account for a macadamia group-buy. These days, famous celebrities also use personal social media to expose ads and generate income, so 'group-buy proof photos' are commonly seen.
However, Hwang Bo-ra drew public criticism by using planning and provocative production that had nothing to do with the product just to attract the public's attention. The video opened with an elaborate traffic accident staging that shocked viewers. In the description she emphasized large discounts and fast delivery being run with the manufacturer's head office and added "a premium snack perfect with beer," "perfect as a diet late-night snack," while
In the video, Hwang Bo-ra screamed as if she had suddenly been in an accident while driving at night, creating a tense scene, then immediately smiled brightly and asked "Want to eat macadamia?" while promoting the nuts product being group-bought. In the description she emphasized large discounts and fast delivery being run with the manufacturer's head office and added "a premium snack perfect with beer," "perfect as a diet late-night snack," among other things, leaving viewers wondering why a traffic accident appeared.
It was truly a provocative, attention-seeking production that had nothing to do with the product. It might have received more favorable responses if she had mentioned the benefits of the nuts or, as an actress, used her acting skills to film a scene of enjoying them deliciously.
Naturally, internet users who saw the video criticized the promotional method for treating a traffic accident as entertainment, and this led to the digging up of Hwang Bo-ra's drunk driving history, extending the shame.
Hwang Bo-ra was caught by police on Dec. 20, 2007, at about 12:20 a.m. near the Gangnam-gu office intersection in Seoul while driving her car with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.135%.
At the time, Hwang Bo-ra told police that a relative had returned home and they had a glass of wine together, and because she then drove in an intoxicated state she was subject to license cancellation for violating the Road Traffic Act and stayed at home in self-reflection. While self-reflecting for drunk driving, Hwang Bo-ra returned in just two months through the film Radio Days, which opened on Jan. 31 the following year. Because filming had already been completed, her quick return took place and she continued her activities.
On the 13th, Hwang Bo-ra bowed her head on her social media and said, "I apologize for showing an imprudent side regarding the previously uploaded group-buy video," and said, "I apologize to the many people who felt uncomfortable, and I will reflect and strive to ensure this does not happen again. I am sorry once more."
Her excessive greed ended with an apology ending.
Meanwhile, Hwang Bo-ra married Kim Young-hoon, CEO of Walkhouse Company, who is the son of Kim Yong-gun and the older brother of actor Ha Jung-woo, in 2022 and gave birth to a son in 2024. Recently, Ha Jung-woo acknowledged his relationship with model Cha Jeong-won, who is 11 years his junior, and announced plans to marry this year.<
