'Exclusive World' delivered an update on Kim Su-young's current life. His present, having transformed from a comedian who brought laughter into a seller of household goods, was portrayed candidly.
On the 12th episode of MBN 'Exclusive World', a day in the life of Kim Su-young, who travels the country selling kitchenware instead of performing on stage, was revealed.
He recalled his difficult childhood and confessed, "I couldn't even attend cram school and I couldn't go to college. School days were hard, but I tried to sublimate that into laughter," he said. He went on, "While making others laugh, I wanted to tell myself 'I am not pitiable, I am not unhappy.' I laughed more to hide it, and that's why I wanted to become a comedian," he revealed.
There was also a heyday. Kim Su-young received great love with the 'Father and Son' segment of Gag Concert, conquering advertising and department store events. He recalled, "At that time I earned hundreds of millions of won in a year," reflecting on those days.
But the turning point in his life was the cancellation of Gag Concert. Kim Su-young said, "When the program ended, I couldn't believe it. I cried a lot. It was very hard when my workplace disappeared," and added frankly, "For a while I denied reality."
After that he sought a new path to make a living. At a friend's suggestion he tried a banana distribution business but suffered failures due to the impact of COVID-19 and other factors, and he jumped into selling kitchenware to make up for the debt he had accumulated. He now loads warehouse items from early morning and travels the country, getting through each day. The broadcast showed him preparing events for sales and doing his best until just before closing.
Although the stage has temporarily disappeared, Kim Su-young has not given up on laughter. He said, "If I'm booked, I want to do comedy again anytime," conveying that he is waiting for the day he can hold a microphone once more.
