Red Pearl director Kim Seong-geun and screenwriter Kim Seo-jeong revealed what sets the work apart.
The new KBS 2TV daily drama Red Pearl, directed by Kim Seong-geun and written by Kim Seo-jeong, scheduled to premiere on the 23rd, is a meticulous and intense chronicle of revenge in which two women who return under false identities uncover the sins and truths hidden in the Adel family.
Director Kim Seong-geun explained Red Pearl's distinction, saying, I was attracted to the fact that it differs in texture from conventional revenge dramas. It focuses on relationships and solidarity between characters rather than sensational storylines. He added, This work is a story about a healing journey to reclaim the true self. Through the process of the two women who wore masks for revenge standing proudly as their original selves, I wanted to convey forgiveness and love for oneself.
Writer Kim Seo-jeong, who penned the drama, delivered a profound message about the work, saying, Through the two protagonists I wanted to show the irony of finding truth through falsehood. I want to move beyond the dichotomy that falsehood is evil and truth is good and pose the question: isn't it the choices of the person standing before them that create good and evil?
Director Kim Seong-geun said the directing point was, I focused on visual beauty that supports emotion, and explained, It is especially important to capture the subtle emotional lines between characters, and the cinematography and lighting are splendidly visualizing the texture of those emotions.
Writer Kim Seo-jeong cited revenge, romance, and a fast pace as Red Pearl's viewing points. I think the viewing points are how the two women's revenge unfolds differently and how they change. She said the drama's key moments will be portrayed importantly by the love quadrangle of Baek Jin-ju, Park Min-jun, Park Hyun-jun and Choi Yu-na, and it will show dramatic and fast developments each episode.
