The scheduled appearance of comedian Park Na-rae at the police photo line was suddenly postponed.
Park Na-rae had originally been scheduled to appear at Seoul Gangnam Police Station today (12th) at about 2:30 p.m. as a respondent to be questioned. Since this would have been her first public appearance after various allegations that arose from conflicts with former managers, a large number of reporters were expected at the scene.
However, on the 11th, one day before the appearance, Park Na-rae's side requested a postponement of the attendance to the police. As a result, the planned photo line that day was also canceled, and the police are reported to be coordinating a new investigation schedule.
This investigation was related to charges including special injury and violations of the Medical Service Act, and was an occasion to verify the facts surrounding allegations by former managers of "gapjil" and illegal medical procedures. With a public appearance announced, there was interest in whether Park Na-rae would state her position in person.
When the postponement request was made just before the appearance, some speculated, "Is it because of the burden of the photo line?" Since she had not appeared at official events after the controversy, observers said that simply standing in front of reporters at the police station would likely have been a considerable burden.
Park Na-rae's side said, "We requested a postponement of the appearance for health reasons," adding, "It is due to safety concerns and health issues, and it is not intended to avoid the investigation." The rescheduled attendance date has not yet been set.
Park Na-rae is currently being sued by former managers over so-called "gapjil" allegations such as workplace harassment, proxy prescriptions, and nonpayment of production fees. The former managers filed a complaint against Park Na-rae last December on charges including defamation and violations of the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, and Park Na-rae's side has counter-sued on charges of extortion and embezzlement in the course of business, continuing the legal battle.
Park Na-rae's police appearance, which had been scheduled for the 12th photo line, was abruptly postponed. Attention is focused on when the new date will be set and whether she will ultimately stand in front of reporters that day.
