An Hyun-mo of 'Radio Star' revealed behind-the-scenes stories from the 2025 Gyeongju APEC summit where she served as master of ceremonies.
On the 11th broadcast of MBC entertainment program 'Radio Star' (hereinafter 'Ras'), Lee Dong-jin, An Hyun-mo, Orbit, Nucksal appeared and the show unfolded as a 'Too Much TALK GPT' special.
Last year An Hyun-mo gained attention for serving as the master of ceremonies at the Gyeongju APEC leaders' summit. She opened by saying, "Of the people who arrived on time, only Korea's president was on time. It went on for four days and I had to keep improvising."
The person who was the most late was U.S. President Trump. An Hyun-mo recalled, "He was about 80 minutes late. As the host I apologized for the delay and thought, 'If only I could sing or dance well, how great would that be.' In the end I apologized four times. When I apologized the last time, everyone applauded at once."
She added, "Maybe they felt sorry because I kept apologizing. Because they knew it wasn't my fault, it gave me strength."
An Hyun-mo later said that during the APEC summit she even managed to meet President Trump alone after getting through strict security. She said, "I had never experienced the atmosphere before President Trump appeared. It was the first U.S. presidential event I'd done. They told us to clear the backstage at the Seoul Arts Center."
She continued, "I wondered if I should leave, but an official said, 'This person is the host.' The security officers in control told everyone except me to leave. After everyone left and I was the only one remaining, I thought I might at least greet him as he passed, but I couldn't. Absolutely not; I stayed quiet as instructed, not making a sound."
Comedian You Se Yoon asked, "Couldn't you say a single word?" and An Hyun-mo revealed, "They even told them to move the chair I was sitting in so it couldn't appear on the stage. He spoke for about an hour and it felt like watching him on a screen. Exactly the same appearance."
Meanwhile, An Hyun-mo also conveyed an anecdote about feeling respect for Samsung Chairman Lee Jae-yong. She recalled, "At the opening ceremony several conglomerate chairmen were seated, and Chairman Lee Jae-yong sat at the center. While the president was giving his speech, other chairmen leaned back in their seats, but Chairman Lee sat upright at the edge of his chair, listening attentively."
She added, "There was also a 'Kkanbu' meeting the night before. I thought they must have been busy with the morning breakfast, but seeing him listen with a particularly upright posture made me think, 'Chairman Jae-Dragon works hard at social activities too, so I should stand up straight myself.'"
