Actor Ko A Sung described the process she prepared for her performance.
On the 12th, a production briefing for the Netflix film "Pavane" was held at Megabox COEX in Seoul. Attending the event were Ko A Sung, Byun Yo-Han, actor Moon Sang Min, and director Lee Jong Pil.
The film "Pavane" is a youth melodrama that, through director Lee Jong Pil's unique and delicate perspective, tells the story of three people who had closed the doors to their hearts becoming light for one another and confronting life and love.
Ko A Sung said the biggest reason she chose the project was, "That it is director Lee Jong Pil was the biggest attraction. Having worked together on the previous film "Samjin Company English TOEIC Class," I knew that a director who used to be an actor would understand an actor's mind better than anyone, so I was happy to participate."
About the character "Mijeong," she said, "She is someone who lives with her heart closed. But after meeting Kyungrok and Yohan, she wonders, 'Could I also open my heart to people?' and gradually receives light," adding, "I spent a very long time contemplating with the director to realize the image that the character Mijeong gives," and she credited the makeup team.
She continued, "Actually, the roles I have personally taken so far have been on the opposite side. Upright, proud even if lacking. I played characters with high self-esteem, and I think I lived under the illusion that I was that kind of person. In truth, I am someone with many weak sides. To play this Mijeong, I had to dig up and bring out those buried parts of myself. Only after facing my honest self could I portray Mijeong," she said, raising expectations.
To embody the character, Ko A Sung paid attention not only to gaining weight but even to chopstick details, saying, "There are a few scenes where Mijeong's handwriting is visible, and I wondered how Mijeong would write. I thought Mijeong would probably express her heart more in writing than in speech, so I imagined she would write each character neatly. Also, personally I know two ways of using chopsticks. I used one of them—the incorrect way I used when I was young," she said, drawing attention.
