Ahn Hyun-mo previously hosted the 2025 Gyeongju APEC international meeting. He recalled, "The only person who arrived on time was Korea's president. It ran for four days and we had to keep improvising. The person who was most late was President Trump, who was 80 minutes late."
At the time, Ahn Hyun-mo said he apologized four times in total and recalled the awkward situation, "I was so faced with a parade of tardiness that I thought how great it would be if I could at least sing or dance well. I apologized four times when President Trump was late."
He added, "When I apologized for the last time, everyone applauded at once. They must have felt sorry seeing me apologize repeatedly. Because they knew it wasn't my fault, it gave me strength."
Especially, Ahn Hyun-mo said he broke through tight security and had a one-on-one private meeting with President Trump. He explained, "I had never experienced the atmosphere before President Trump appeared. It was my first time at an event for a U.S. president. They told everyone to clear the backstage of the Arts Center."
He continued, "I was wondering if I should leave too, but a staff member said, 'This person is the host.' The security officers who were controlling things told everyone except me to leave. After everyone left and I was the only one remaining, I thought I might at least greet him as he passed, but I couldn't. Absolutely not, and I was hiding my breath and not making a sound as instructed."
Ahn Hyun-mo, who said he could not utter a word because of the intimidating atmosphere, added, "They even told them to move the chair I was sitting in so it couldn't be brought onto the same stage. He spoke for about an hour and it felt like watching him on a screen. The exact same appearance."
