A performance of "Life of Pi" featuring actor Park Jeongmin was canceled just before it began due to a lighting equipment malfunction.
According to the performing arts industry on the 11th, the "Life of Pi" performance scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on the 10th at GS Art Center in Seoul was canceled five minutes before it was to start.
The production company said, "A sudden technical issue occurred with some lighting devices, and although we attempted restoration, we determined it would be difficult to proceed with the performance and had no choice but to cancel," adding, "The lighting devices did not operate, and we decided to cancel in consideration of safety." It added, "We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience to the audience."
The production company will finalize specific compensation measures and announce them separately, and will also provide guidance on whether the performance will resume after a comprehensive inspection of the technical conditions in the venue.
"Life of Pi" is a work that tells the story of a boy, "Pi," who is cast adrift in the Pacific after a freighter accident and struggles to survive, based on Yann Martel's novel "Life of Pi." Park Jeongmin returned to the stage after a long time in the lead role of Pi.
