Rhee Minjung of "1st place" expressed her feelings about taking on the role of music program MC for the first time.
MBC held a press conference for the new entertainment program "1st place" on the morning of the 11th at Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul. MC Rhee Minjung and Boom attended the event and, under the moderation of announcer Park So-young, talked about "1st place" with director Kim Myung-jin and director Chae Hyun-seok.
Rhee Minjung greeted the audience saying, "I have been assigned as the MC of a music program for the first time," and said, "I love audition programs so much that I have liked them since I was young. I have watched without fail since 'Superstar K' first aired. I even went to a "Sing Again" concert in person. I thought that if I became an MC I would be able to listen to the songs I love without getting tired of them. At home I had been listening to the song 'Mom's finger' over and over. There was healing, and many stages warmed my heart. So I immediately said 'ooak' to appear and I'm enjoying the healing," she said with a laugh.
Regarding inviting Rhee Minjung, director Chae Hyun-seok said, "She was so beautiful. Personally, I have been a long-time fan. Because this is her first time as an MC, I felt she could add freshness in image and visuals that are hard to find among people who usually appear on competitions, so I requested the invitation. I had also heard that she likes singing and auditions in general. I thought it fit the context of our program, so I made the request," explaining the reason for the invitation.
Director Kim Myung-jin also chimed in, "In one word, it's dignity. When I first went to invite her, I saw sincerity and dignity. She loves music so much. When we met to invite her, there were people who knew more than we did. We were surprised while talking. She knew which things were fun and which were not by evaluating them all. So we actually asked her even more," he added.
In addition, Rhee Minjung said, "As a medium, I do listen to radio, but the best thing is actually going to a concert and watching it. I really like being able to enjoy this music in a big way. Just as many entertainment shows and programs evaluate food we've never tasted, listening live at the site is explosive and great, but I think viewers at home will also listen along, and even if it's not first place, if it leaves the best stage it will be talked about a lot and the stage itself will be much mentioned and become an issue."
She continued, "They call those people together the audience ear unit, and those people can vote, and viewers watching at home can also cheer. We also think that the time we enjoy is precious, so of course I like their intensity, competition and sincerity, but there don't seem to be many programs where you can actually hear good music. In that sense, the points to watch this program more interestingly are important not only for Boom and me and many people's evaluations, but I think the stages themselves will probably remain for a long time."
"1st place" will premiere on the 15th at 8:50 p.m. It will then air every Sunday at 9:10 p.m.<
