Actor David Thewlis drew a firm line on the possibility of reuniting with the Harry Potter series. He candidly revealed his cold feelings, saying, "To be honest, I'm tired of talking about that story now."
According to People's report on the 9th (local time), Thewlis was asked in a recent interview whether he would be willing to rejoin the Harry Potter TV series that HBO is producing. He said, "I'm too old to take on the character I played again," and added, "I have no desire to go back."
He added with a laugh, "We've done that story enough. I'm really tired of it." It was a remark that effectively put an end to requests for the franchise to return that stir fans' nostalgia.
Thewlis left a strong impression playing Remus Lupin, the Hogwarts professor of "Defense Against the Dark Arts" and a werewolf character, in the 2004 film Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. He later appeared in a total of five films through the Order of the Phoenix, the Half-Blood Prince, and the Deathly Hallows series.
However, the narrative concluded when the character died in Deathly Hallows Part 2. Thewlis has maintained the position that it is "a story that already has a sufficient period at the end."
Meanwhile, HBO officially confirmed production of a Harry Potter TV series in 2023 and plans to faithfully adapt one original novel per season with the aim of releasing it in 2027. HBO has recently raised expectations by announcing the casting of major adult characters, including John Rhys-Davies, Janet McTeer, Nick Frost and Papa Essiedu.
However, Thewlis added that his affection for Harry Potter has not completely faded. He said, "I am still happy when I meet young fans. Seeing children genuinely moved makes me happy."
Nevertheless, his clear choice is to focus on the present rather than past representative works. Thewlis is currently preparing for the release of season 2 of the Disney+ series The Artful Dodger. Apart from the memory left under the name "Professor Lupin," actor David Thewlis's path has already moved on to the next chapter.<
