KARD member Jeon Ji-woo, an all-rounder, is launching her first solo voyage in earnest nine years after her debut.
Jeon Ji-woo on the 11th at 6 p.m. released the full audio of her first EP '(EX)IST' and the music video for the title track 'Home Sweet Home' on various streaming sites.
Jeon Ji-woo's first solo album '(EX)IST' is the first solo album she has released since debuting with KARD in 2017, nine years ago. This album condenses the time and experiences Jeon Ji-woo has accumulated from the past to the present into one, focusing on showing a firm identity as a solo artist.
Featuring five tracks in total, this album encapsulates Jeon Ji-woo's remarkable musical spectrum. Jeon Ji-woo personally wrote the lyrics for the fourth track 'Lily,' adding sincerity, and KARD member BM participated in the production of the tracks 'Mutual' and 'Dang Dong (feat. BM of KARD),' providing solid support.
The title track 'Home Sweet Home' is a song in which Jeon Ji-woo's voice, crossing the boundaries of R&B and alternative pop, reaches like a breath at night. From the whispering intro to the rhythmically varied bridge, Jeon Ji-woo's voice becomes an instrument in itself, portraying raw instincts.
"Hop on your / Better hop on your whip / Speed it up / Speed it up to my crib / I can't wait / Of course you can stay 'til we / 'Til we see the morning sun / Home Sweet Home / (Hah, hah, hah) / Home Sweet Home / (Hah, hah, hah)" — the lyrics contain a deep tension and desire that continue until the night ends.
In the accompanying music video, the collision of two selves — 'temptation' and 'liberation' — is depicted within sensuous imagery where darkness and light intersect, symbolically expressing the real Jeon Ji-woo revealed in that process.
Having anchored the team with rough yet sophisticated rap and vocals as a member of KARD, Jeon Ji-woo through this solo activity has succeeded in building an independent musical world that is not bound by genre.
Now opening a new chapter as 'solo artist Jeon Ji-woo' rather than as a member of KARD, expectations are growing for what steps she will take next.
