The group BTS's single CD 'Butter,' released in July 2021, surpassed 4 million cumulative points on Japan's Oricon 'weekly combined singles ranking' (tracking period: Feb. 2-6). This ranking is calculated by aggregating streaming figures, digital download numbers and others. BTS became the first foreign artist and the second artist overall in history to exceed 4 million cumulative points.
Oricon noted the streaming performance of the title track included on the single CD and 'Permission to Dance.' 'Butter' debuted at No. 1 on the Oricon weekly streaming ranking at the time of its release and held the top spot for eight consecutive weeks, and it recently surpassed 600 million cumulative streams. 'Permission to Dance' also defended the No. 1 position for eight consecutive weeks on the same chart and is currently on the verge of reaching 500 million streams. Both songs remain steady favorites even about 4 years and 7 months after their release as the group's mega-hits. This shows the power and influence of BTS's music.
At the same time, '#RUNSEOKJIN_EP.TOUR in JAPAN,' which contains the live footage of Jin's Japan fan concert, took No. 1 simultaneously on the Oricon weekly blu-ray ranking (tracking period: Jan. 26-Feb. 1) and the weekly music DVD·blu-ray ranking. The Japan shows enjoyed tremendous popularity at the time of their holding, and the Chiba and Osaka events held in July last year sold out all performances. In particular, the Osaka Kyocera Dome shows were perfectly sold out, including the top eighth tier and seats with restricted views. Also, Japan's five major sports papers (Sports Nippon, Daily Sports, Nikkan Sports, Sports Hochi, Sankei Sports) ran prominent front-page coverage of the performances over two days.
BTS will release their fifth studio album, 'ARIRANG,' on March 20 at 1 p.m. The new record will include a total of 14 tracks that show the group's identity and 'the current BTS.' Following the album release, they will hold 'BTS comeback live: ARIRANG' (BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE｜ARIRANG) at Gwanghwamun Square on the 21st. It will be streamed live on Netflix.
