'You Quiz on the Block' Kwon Il-yong and Pyo Chang-won issued stern warnings and critical views about dating violence.
On the 11th aired tvN 'You Quiz on the Block' (hereafter 'You Quiz'), profilers Kwon Il-yong and Pyo Chang-won appeared. They spoke in unison, "There is no such thing as an unsolved case. It will inevitably be solved someday," they said forcefully.
They spoke in unison about a social phenomenon they have been mindful of recently, mentioning 'dating violence.' Pyo Chang-won said, "In the last two to three days dozens of reports of dating violence have come in. Among them, two to three people die every few days," adding, "The most heartbreaking recent event was that in a Gangnam building, a perpetrator who had been admitted to Korea's top private medical school after scoring perfect marks on the college entrance exam brutally killed his girlfriend with whom he was dating," referring to an actual case.
Kwon Il-yong said, "When times change rapidly, people feel anxious. They overthink and come to believe they own people. They think the person they own will leave them, and that develops into distorted emotions. If the victim leaves, that's fine—if people react that way, the victim becomes endangered."
Pyo Chang-won said, "We try to find measures such as a stalking punishment law and a dating violence punishment law through systems, policies, and fundamental methods, but the legal community dislikes rapid change. Sentences have not been raised much, and separating perpetrators and victims is insufficient. Only emergency measures exist. That moment alone is not enough. If they learn it's no big deal, they retaliate," expressing frustration about the current situation.
Pyo Chang-won warned strongly about people to be careful of, saying, "If someone wants access to your phone or demands your passwords, you must break up with them unconditionally. And avoid anyone who threatens over a breakup. Such people will inevitably act someday. If they engage in violent physical contact, you must break up with them without fail."
