Actor Brad Pitt's new film The Adventures Of Cliff Booth first trailer was released, and mixed reactions have poured in from fans over his striking appearance.
Daily Mail reported on the 9th (local time) that in the teaser trailer released during the Super Bowl, Brad Pitt appeared wearing a mustache and a blonde wig reminiscent of the 1970s. It is a spin-off of the stuntman Cliff Booth character he played in the 2019 film Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood.
However, online reactions were somewhat cold immediately after the trailer was released. Some fans expressed disappointment with responses such as "This is not the charm of Brad Pitt we know," "Did he really need to wear a wig?" and "Brad Pitt, this isn't it ㅠㅠ." Many especially said the artificial hairstyle interfered with immersion.
It is reported that Brad Pitt wore a wig because his actual hair was short during filming. But this setting instead drew viewers' attention and sparked debate. On one online community, there were also defenses saying "a choice to express Cliff Booth's rough era."
This project is directed by David Fincher, with Quentin Tarantino participating in the screenplay and production. The two have previously collaborated on Se7en, Fight Club, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
The film stars Elizabeth Debicki, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Holt McCallany, and Timothy Olyphant, who played James Stacy in Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood, also reappears.
The Adventures Of Cliff Booth is set after the original story and will depict Cliff Booth working as a fixer for a Hollywood studio. At the end of the trailer, an Oscar trophy placed on a desk appears, recalling the moment Brad Pitt won his first Academy Award for acting for that character.
Aside from the controversy over appearance, expectations for the work itself remain high. Interest is growing in what expanded narrative the symbolic character Cliff Booth will return with.
