Ahn Da-bin, the son of the late actor Ahn Sung-ki, expressed longing and affection for his father.
On the 10th, Ahn Da-bin posted news about his solo exhibition on his social media and wrote, "Dad. This has become the only solo exhibition I could not tell you about."
He went on to write, "I think I have come to understand a little how to paint with my heart. The things you used to tell me only reach me now. Thank you, Dad. I will continue to work quietly from now on." The message conveyed longing and affection for his father, who passed away last month.
Along with the text, Ahn Da-bin also released several photos showing the solo exhibition. He was standing next to a painting titled "Untitled (Dad)" and taking pictures.
About the work, Ahn Da-bin explained, "At first I planned to include more still lifes in the middle section of this painting and add a pair of candles at the center. This reflected my work "Repose." Just as I was about to begin these additional layering works, I got a call from my younger sibling and had to fly to Seoul on the next flight to be with my father in his final moments. To add some context, I have been preparing this exhibition since last summer with my father, who had been ill since 2019, in mind."
Ahn Da-bin, the eldest son of the late Ahn Sung-ki, is active as a painter and installation artist. After his father's passing, he previously moved people by releasing a letter his father left him while alive.
The late Ahn Sung-ki passed away last month on the 5th at Soonchunhyang University Hospital in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, while receiving treatment in the intensive care unit with his family by his side. He was 74. He was diagnosed with blood cancer in 2019 and continued chemotherapy, receiving a clean bill of health in 2020. During a routine checkup, a relapse was confirmed after six months, and he had been focusing on treatment.
