Group SEVENTEEN 'Meboz' Dokyeom X Seungkwan added another record in Japan.
On the 10th, according to the Recording Industry Association of Japan, Dokyeom X Seungkwan's mini 1st album "Soyagok" received a gold disc "gold" certification as of January. The Recording Industry Association of Japan awards gold disc certifications based on cumulative monthly shipments of records, classifying them as gold (100,000 units), platinum (250,000 units), double platinum (500,000 units), and so on.
With this, SEVENTEEN has earned its third gold disc certification as a unit. Earlier, Jeonghan X Wonwoo's single 1st album "THIS MAN" and S.Coups X Mingyu's mini 1st album "HYPE VIBES" also received "gold" certification. As a group, they hold a total of 18 gold disc-certified albums, including singles.
"Soyagok" sold nearly 100,000 copies on its day of release in Japan alone, shooting straight to No. 1 on Oricon's "daily album ranking" (Jan. 22). The album recently made a surprise appearance at No. 1 on that chart again (Feb. 5), showing undiminished popularity.
The title track "Blue" is also receiving much love in Japan. The song entered No. 1 on Spotify Japan's "daily viral song" on the 26th and held the top spot for six days. It is an unusual achievement for a traditional ballad in a K-pop market centered on powerful performances.
Also, "Blue" has continued long-term success thanks to a vocal challenge featuring artists from various genres. From fan-participation duet challenges to short-form videos that insert "Blue" into breakup situations many people have experienced, the clips have repeatedly received positive responses, landing the song in the upper ranks of YouTube Korea's latest "weekly shorts popular songs" (tracking period Jan. 30–Feb. 5).
